New skis questions

Right now I am looking at getting my first pair of twin tips and I am currently looking a few different models of K2. I am looking a Fujatives (I've heard good things) and the new Silencers since I am on kind of a budget but I was wondering what some opinions from guys that know what they're talking about.

I just crossed over from snowboarding and am a pretty decent skier for only having half a season under my belt, but I dont really know anything about equipment. My first problem is size. I am 5'11 160lbs and I dont really know whether to go with 169cm or 179cm. Other than that, I was curious as to your opinions of Fujatives vs. Silencers vs. anything else you would suggest that isn't over like $450. I've read that the '06 Invaders delam but anyone ridden the '07 yet? Any help you could steer my way would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

you should go wiht the 179s and the invaders delaminating problems have apparantly been fixed.

between the fujatives and the silencers its a matter of wat you like to ski. if your looking to stay in the park for most of the day you would prolly wana pick up the fujatives cuz they are a great park ski. but if you like to ski around the mountain your gona wana get the silencer cuz its steered a little more towards all mtn. its also great in the park tho just a tiny bit stiffer. if i were you id get silencers 179 mount them maybe +4 and you will have a good park ski and if you ever want to leave the park then you will be all set.

thanks for the help so far. Right now I am leaning toward the Fujatives, but I would really like some feedback on the 2007 Line Invaders. If you know anyone that has ridden them or knows anything about them please let me know. I reall like the looks and description of them since I will be riding mostly park, but if there is still a delam problem then I will definately go with the Fujatives. thanks again.

I could also now go with the 2006 K2 Public Enemy in 179cm. Between the 2006 Public Enemy and the 2007 Fujative for a rider that will be 80% Park 20% Groomers/Backcountry what would you recommend?

well silencers i think could handle all mountain a littile better than the fungatives as for size... i say 169 since ur just starting

I wouldn't be worried about delamming invaders becuase they got a shitload of them returned and waranteed so I doubt they would've made this years without fixing the problem

169 now? What are the advantages/disadvantages of a longer ski as far as freestyle riding goes? Would a 169 for someone my height and weight work outside the park?

well if i've learned anything in the time i've been here, it's that usually the ski is better longer, and PE's are a really good all around ski.  whenever someone asks about what ski would be good outside the park, i almost always see the PE pop up somewhere.

Personaly I would go with the BC sprayers (mounted at core center), these are good park skis but wont be a pain in the ass when that powder day comes along or if you want to ski outside the park,  if you are pretty sure you will never see powder with these skis I would go with the Silencer, (mount at +6- +7.5 )it is cheep and can still ski all mountain but is still a good park ski, The think that would keep me from saying invaders or fujatives is that you don't want to have those on ice, And if you are willing to spend more money on a pure park ski I would go with the TM's (mounted core center- true center), I think that they are the best park and pipe ski out there for your price range.
As for the size of the of your ski these may seem large but if you mount them closer to center then they will ski as if they are shorter, as for bindings go with the Look/rossi bindings (you dont need anything with fks or p-18) the salomon S912's or 14's  but my prefered bindings are the mojo 15's which you can get the 06's for pretty cheep.

wow thanks a lot WestCoast and everybody. everyone on this forum seems really cool and helpful and I am really appreciative. I thought crossing the line from snowboarding to freeskiing would be tough, but you guys have made it much easier and I thank you for it, seriously.

lol no problem dude this is wat the site is for. but i think 169 might be the right size for u if ur just starting cuz 179 could be difficult for u to jib on and other things. also line was bought out by k2 which k2 is mostly bombproof. now idk if they made the 07's or they are gonna start making the 08's cuz they just bought the company but lines quality should be getting better and better. and also if ur just starting ur prolly not gonna be hucking 50 foot booters and shit so i wouldnt worry about delam

I am beginning, so maybe a smaller ski would be better for me. I really don't plan on doing a whole lot of like groomers riding and all that resort sort of stuff. I am really just focussed on freeskiing and since I am not able to ride a whole lot of backcounty, I will mostly be in the park. Another thing I must ask since I've really been researching my purchase, is what effect does width have? Obviously in powder it will give you more float, but does it increase stability in the park on landings and transitions? How much more difficult would edging be between say an 80 center width and a 90-95 center width? Anyone hear anything good/bad about the Line Anthems? Again thanks a bunch to anyone that answers.

for park width is not a big deal, and i still think you should go with a 180 ski that way it will still work for you next year after you are ripping the park to shreds, just mount it at core center. just make shure the guy mounting your skis knows what that is, if he does not he does not deserve your bussiness and you should go to some one else,  also writing do not trust this guy he does not know shit about ski out side his shop with spray paint is a good idea.

Thanks for all the help. I am actually going to go be able to go to a few shops today and look at some stuff, so we'll see what happens. I love K2 snowboards, and their skis look and sound great as well, but I also really like the looks and feel of Line gear too, so I guess my main question is, how does Line stack up to K2 or other brands? I've heard some bad things about the '06 Invader and I've also heard the Line bindings are too great, but besides those, how does Line stack up? I'm a college kid so money is tight, and if I am going to drop a shitload of cash on my own setup, I want the best and most durable gear I can get for the cash, so Line vs. K2? Anyone care to comment?

line was just recently bought up by k2 so there new shit is top notch or will be. but there skis are great they dis contued the binding to due to weight and breaking (even though it is a great concept)that biening said these issuses will probaly be fixed and reintroduced in the coming seasons. line skis are great (i've got crons and love them they are a good ec all moutain ski) ive heard noting but great reviews on the anthem seems like all skis are getting fatter and those skis might just be the ticket for u

this man is a beginner, the anthems are a little fat for him, besides he says he will not be doing much backcountry at all. i say get a starter ski like the fujatives or PE and then if you dont kill yourself the first year get something more extreme

thanks for all the help guys. I was up north over the weekend and hit a few of the local shops and ended up with a pair of '06 K2 Public Enemies and Rossi Scratch 100 bindings for them. I also just ordered the Salomon Performa 8.0 boots and they should be here soon. hopefully this set up will work well, and I'll probably add a second pair of skis to the quiver halfway through the season. right now I'm looking at Vokl Dogens or K2 Silencers for my second, but I haven't heard much about either.

thats great to hear you got hooked up.  have a great time with your new stuff, and be sure to fill us in on how your season goes/what other skis you got.  don't worry if other people try to shut you down and say "who cares about your skiing."  it's always great to hear how stoked someone else is
