This is awesome. this new job that im going to strat in september is already having some major benefits. one of our clients will hook me up with a week trip to whistler for free 2 times a year on any date I want. and my future boss is taking me on a super sick surfing trip in Mexico sometime in the year.
I know ive been talking alot about myslef lately but I really cant beleive how cool all of this shit is. im having so much fun, ill be making some good money with this new job, and meet shitloads of people.
im 19 and I didnt go to college and I always told people that college was not as important as everyone said it was, their response was almost always, your gonna be a failure because your a failure in school (I did pretty poorly in school) and im going to be a failure because im not planing on attending college.
I guess that playing around with photoshop, Avid Xpress, Maya, and learning about things I love instead of doing my homework wasnt that bad of an idea

well right now im working at a snowboard shop, and on the side I assist this photographer sometimes.
starting in september though im going to be working for a guy who is starting up a company. I cant say much about what were going to be making but its definitly going to have a cloathing line. and itl be mostly West Coast and Midwest for right now. we have a couple of Actresses who are already going to be wearing our stuff and promoting, then when it gets attention and people know about the brand were going to expand to new york.
im going to be doing sales, designing, making some adds, and a whole bunch of other stuff. im gonna be making 80k a year plus commissions, and some hand-outs that I listed above.
I cant say much about it other than their will be a cloathing line and it will be high end stuff. i
I cant give you too much info other than that. when I can tell you more you can bet your ass I will though.

that's super sick man, you definitely don't need to go to college to get a good job, it's just that it's much easier to get one if you went to college. i'd be stoked if i were you. that's a quality job and most likely a life long carrer

how so?
college is supposed to get you into the job world. which im in. also here in LA I met 6 or 7 people who are directing and producing movies who even thought they never went to college (2 of them didnt even graduate high school) tell anyone who asks where they went to school they give them the name of a film school in Canada (no one ever checks)
If I ever need too I can do the same.

How did you get hooked up wiht the job? Thats awesome on being so independent. Most people who don't go to college pump gas for their lives, good work on being the dude who proves everybody wrong

I talked to a bunch of people and they seemed to like me so I got invited to parties, and this guy and I started talking I met him at a couple of differnt parties and then about 3 weeks ago he comes up to me and he tells me im smart, I speak from the heart and seemed to know what I was talking about and he said he had this project that he was starting that he had financial backing for it and that he would really like me to work for him and that I would be a great asset for his company.
I was super stoked.
and ive had other job offers from a director a producer and a couple of photographers who wanted to take me as their assistants, unfortunatly I dont have a car and they said I wouldnt be able to work for them without a car. the guy im assisting right now lives in my building so I drive with him to shoots. He used to be a pro snowboarder and grew up in Lake tahoe so we have alot in common

So are you living in LA alone right now? How much photography experience do you have to be assisting or possibly assisting lots of photographers?

Thats sweet that you have a job you like but there are no guarantees that this company will go anywhere. In five years this company could have gone under and you will have no education to fall back on.

i don't sense to much logic in that. college gets u the job, he already has the job, so he skipped a step and didn't have to pay 100 thousand in loans after 4 years
