Rusty edges

A friend of mine just bought a pair of the old 177cm cusson 1080s for dirt cheap. however 4 weeks later he notices minor rusting on the edges of the skis, now these haven't been skied or drilled yet.

Does the rust affect performance or life of the ski ? can it be fixed? he doesnt really want to return it because he got it for so cheep

rust can eat into the metal, get a gummi stone, or a ceramic stone, and that should take care of the edges.

scrape it acroos the edges until the rust comes off

some edges can rust just sitting in the garage. It's not a big deal unless it's really piling up....a light scrape should take it off.

just sharpen them a little and it should come off, if you dont it could eat away at the edge and theyll get all disgusting

this is semi-related, I recently tried to jib this shitty aluminum rail and now I have some aluminum melted onto my edges underfoot, do you think it will come off next time I jib a normal rail or should I try and scrape it off or something?

to get rust off you edges try rubbing them with steel wool, it wont hurt your bases and it's cheap and works real good. get it at any hardware or home improvement store.

Just get them sharpened professionally if you are worried about it, if its not that bad just sking them will work the rust off.

if your skis are wet dont leave them in a back over night..it can get bad

well its good to say keep your skis dry after you've riden them, but my mate hasn't even skied on them yet, they are brand new not drilled and they are starting to rust

where is your 'mate' storing these skis....it doesn't take much...


Who was the kid saying that his skis were sitting in water on his truck?? Is he serious? Uhh, I'm assuming it's water from rain/snow and therefore it's full of acidic deposits...may as well set them in salt water.
