My Bad...I didnt finish my thread... my question was can people give me some tips on getting started, i.e. which way do i slide? how do i keep my balls? etc.
start on a box so that the risk of absolute death is less.. make sure you keep your weight forward enough every beginner i've ever seen slide slips their skis out from under them
just use a wide stance and look to the end of the rail
you jump onto the rail, turn completely 90 degrees, dont lean back, keep your skis a little more than shoulder width apart, and keep your eyes on the end of the rail with your shoulders also facing the end of the rail so you can come off easily
well im not sure your going to keep your balls, but make sure you start out on a flat rail thats really low to the ground, and trust me, your going to fall, but just get up and keep trying, youll find your balance
keep your back foot flat on the box, put equal weight on both feet, pop onto the box don't turn onto the box, look at the end of the rail, bend your knees so you have mad gorrilla steeze for super cereal balance, and don't be afraid, its accually quite easy to do a flat box, for rails, just find the ballance point on your ski and make sure that that point is always on the rail, and that you pop a full 90 degrees onto the rail, other than that you sould have a good time, plus wait till the snow isn't death cookie or ice sheetish, hardpack is ok though, Byeeahhhhhh!
Just hit it. Don't think about what can happen, just hit it.
Keep you feet shoulder width apart, keep your weight balanced, your gonna think u want to lean back DONT. Just get on the rail get low and watch the end of it.
Practice on boxxes to get your balance. They are super easy just take it slow.
YOU WILL FALL thats part of learning rails. I have been hitting rails for 3-4 years now and I still eat shit just getting on them normally from time to time.
Just sack up and hit them, don't think about the fall otherwsie you most likely will fall.
Another good way to learn them is to start hitting them switch on. It will force different parts of your brain to work, sounds lame and shit, but its true.
Your mind would never think to start learning something swithc, but if you start out with that it will force all pre-concieved notions out of your mind, I have taught a few kids this way and now they are all throwing down big time on rails. One just landed his first 450 gap on this past winter, and he started rails at the start of the winter.
If that sounds to gnarly just don't think about the rail, focus on the position of your feet, watch the end of the rail, stay balanced and just go.
You will most likely eat shit the first time, but there really isn't anyone who doesn't so just do it up :: )
rails are really fun, yea start on boxes and just expiroment with yourself..see which way feels more confortable (weather its right foot forward or left foot forward) and things like that
yeah... start on a flat box. Ground high. just go straight on first. then try turning your body to the side... which ever way you spin in the air probably will be the way you want to turn. Think about keeping your weight forward. Your bases flat on the box. and your eyes towards the end. You might fall a few times b4 you get it down... but no worries. Everyones gotta start somewhere. good luck.
i really started skiing park this year and i started doing rails like as soon as they set them up at the hill i was deard to try it so i did and i did stop untill i got the hole rail in is was so sweet then i counldn't stop
I have not yet done a decent rail slide but I'm decently confident on boxes so I'm gonna try it this winter. What helped me a ton was having my own box at home that I just practiced on by myself for a long while. Didn't stop me from fucking up the first time I tried a different box.
actually if he spins left it would be better for him to go on left foot forward. cause anyone can make that 90 and go left foot forward, and then when he is learning spins onto rails he will land on his natural foot.
