Is there a difference between 150 km away which includes a 2 hour boat ride, or 5000 Km. away which includes a transcontinental flight? or are they both doomed to fail?

i'd say the 150km has a better chance of working out, but both would ultimately fail if you can't eventually get away from the distance

dude you can make it work if you are both full committed to it....my girlfriend who is a year younger and i are staying together for my freshmen year until she goes to school in VA and as long as you lay out some basic parameters on how the relationship will work and as long as you both want it to work, then you have nothing to worry about

i've found that sometimes it's easier to be really far away than than closer in a long distance relationship because it's easier to accept that there's a long distance between the two of you. With only a couple hours distance, it's easy to start thinking that you should be able to see each other more often and you start getting irritated at each other for not making efforts to get together even if you know it's not possible. But either way, if you can't get over the distance, the relationship will probably fall apart.

How old are you? Is this a college separation?
I've done 3 different flavors of long-distance including a semester stint in St. Petersburg Russia by the woman. (Didn't see her the entire time obviously)
I'd say don't axe the relationship unless you are POSITIVE it won't work. Give it a shot and see.
