So I'm goin to college this fall and as a graduation present my parents are gonna buy me a computer to take to school. I don't really know what I want/need to get yet so I'm wonderin what you guys have and like? I'm pretty set on gettin a laptop, and since I'm goin to business school a mac would be a waste of money. let's hear it...
i also dug the 17 inch sceens untill it hit me, that that computers never gonan fit in a back back and is too massive, so i got a 15.4 inch one and i think that is the most clutch size, i find it to be perfect
17" screens are heavier, and likely have less battery life. I just got a pretty sweet Compaq with 1 gig of RAM, 100 gig hard drive, and tons of other stuff. I didn't even look at Dell because I've heard their laptops sometimes overheat and fry themselves. A guy at the bus stop told me he had to get a new one every 3-4 months. If you have the money, get the Acer Ferrari, it's slick. HP makes good notebooks too. I find Toshiba's to be overpriced, but that could be just me. They still make a good product.
yea my family uses a hp desktop and it works pretty good, i guess i'll look at those cuz my dad uses a dell and he's complained about overheating and he only uses it for a couple hours at a time to do work...
if its a option go to mac. I am a strong suporter of apple ever sence i got one almost 2 years ago. It takes a little getting use to but its deffinatly worth it. The mac book pro is windows compatible if you really want a windows operating system and the 15.4" screen and apple has the highest battery life of any laptop i could find.
I've got an acer (im in NZ thou so don't know what they're like where you are) but I found they had by far the best value for money. I wouldn't bother with the 17" lcd like its gonna be right infront of you so 15.1" is pretty big if you're that concerned about space on the screen upgrade the graphics card so it can handle higher resolutions- check the max resolution of the screen though.. and it would be a mission taking a 17" around uni with you!
i ended up gettin a hp v1660 i think its called its got a 14inch high definition screen which as I learned when i went to look at them in person is plenty big. i got pc cuz i'm goin to business school and i think it will be fine as a normal computer not just for word processing considering that it is more powerful than the desktop i use at home right now except for hard drive but 80 gigs will do fine for me i think and if not i can always get an external one. and its got the intel centrino duo processor
you'll start to see that your screen isnt that big - trust me, it happens...
business school all you really need is office, or windows, which can both be loaded onto a mac
80g HDD should be fine, and externals are pieces of shit.
HP, in my experience, is absolute shite...dont be surprised if your computer goes to shit in under a year.
i love you, but you shoulda gotten either a thinkpad or a mac
Well I'm glad you're so devoted to your macs, but hp makes some solid computer, our desktop is an hp and we've been using it for like 3 years almost without problems. And for the amount I spent on the hp I could've gotten like a fuckin 10inch macbook. And using a mac is retarded for business, nothing you do will be compatible with everyone you're working with which is pretty fucking important. Macs are definately good computers, but not for business and anyone who knows anything wont argue with that.
