i know there are various threads about not using poles but i never really thought it was a big thing...just a little trend or something. i never really looked into it or read the threads i saw..now i'm wondering if alot of people are really skiing nopoles for good???
i have not fully decided yet... i think that it is like someting you do for fun or something...but i cant see it being all the time...but i am for poles (for me)
i ski with poles and ill always ski with poles cause i ski much more backcountry then park but thats just me. i dont have anything against no poles i just chose to ski with poles.
i am really undisided, i go no poles if i break mine half way threw the day for a few runs but i ushually go and get new ones. If people want to go with out poles then so be it, but i like my poles and intend to keep them
poles are sick, they may disappear for awhile, but people willalways wnat them, you can push with them, hit shit, and its kinda liek you have 2 swrods or soemthign and your some kinda crazy winter wariior.....and you can pretend your holding shotguns/machines guns while you rip down the hill.
I skied no poles all of last year just to see how it was. You should do it at least once to get your natural balance. But trust me it sucks not being able to push yourself with anything
i dont understand why you would. your supposed to use them to turn and stuff, so maybe alot of people just dont ski correctly or something, but i use mine all the time, never gonna go without them
ya poles make a HUGE difference with just actual skiing and they help so much and id never ski backcountry without them. but in the park it doesnt really matter how your turns are so i guess its just a matter of comfort for some people. my poles arent going anywhere.
i think no poles just looks and feels weird. poles help you turn correctly and u can push off them. so why would u not want them? no poler grabs may be tweaked better or whatever but it still looks off to me.
andy mahre can ski well... can you? i like poles cause i grew on to using them i always pole plant when just skiing down steep stuff so yea... i think it was moguls and racing that did that.
i drop my poles every now and then just cause i think its good practice to keep everything smooth. nopoles i think really helps you control yourself a little bit more.
dude fuck no poles perosnaly i think its ruining skiing
skiing is gonna turn into that stupid like that half pipe rollar bladding shit were like steeze is penciled the fuck out fuck that shit
hahaha. to ski technically correct you need poles, its all about momentum of your upper body. hard to explain over the internet.
anyways,
at work, the level 3s always make the other instructors ski with out poles, they call them crutches...anyways, it is really good for your skiing good for your balance and focusing on steering and turning with your feet.
but when you get into the bumps, steeps, or any technical shit you need the poles
and even when ripping groomers, your poles continues momentum of your upper body
and on top of that, without poles, your timing gets all sloppy
i'm not in the park all that often anymore, i like to stick with backcountry and such, but when i am in the park i usually do have poles. however, it is fun once in awhile to throw the poles down for a run or two through the park because it allows you to get some grabs in that you normally can't do with the poles. so i'm for poles, but i wouldn't mind if no poles became an accepted way to park ski.
poles. all the time. on everything.
esp in the BC or on steep technical stuff. not only do you need them to ski the stuff correctly, but without them you just look plain stupid. like a snowboarder with 2 planks.
I am officially going no poles for this season. The only exception will be backcontry expeditions and long traverses.I was no p[oles around 50/50 last year, and I felt my overall balance improve, ESPECIALLY in the setting of my spins.
im going no poles this year. unless if i am doing back country or some traverses. but for a normal day mainly lapping the parks and shreddin the packed ice im definitely going no poles.
i ride with no poles when i am just lapping the rails in the park a 100 times. cuz its hard er to hang on to the rope tow with poles. but i where em when i'm hitting jumps and taking pictures/video
haha i didnt even know i posted in this post b/c it was from so long ago... my preference has changed slightly on this.
i tried a few runs w/o poles a few weekends ago and it is fun, but i feel like im missing something, so im definatly gonna stick with the poles, and maybe leave them behind for a few runs just for fun. my biggest problem with it is that you cant move/stop yourself (at least in tight lift lines) w/o poles- thats the worst haha
hmm, I've never gone more than 2 runs without them, but maybe I might go a day withut them to see how it feels, like alot of people said it probably boosts your balance a ton
