Yes, its a monopoly. No one's forcing you to buy any at gunpoint if you disagree with the price though, so all is fair methinks. Dont know how US prices compare unfortunately.

Hard liquor in the states is cheaper for sure. Sometimes around $15 for a twentysixer, to give you an idea. Cases of Corona are super cheap to...around $30

crossin the border at nigra/buffalo the duty free has crazy prices,, can get 2 24s for something like $36 (cans)

The LCBO (and Beer Store) is actually the largest liquor control boards in the world. Bet you didn't know that.
I just moved to Alberta and have travelled a tonne in the States. The prices for booze in ONT are close to the most expensive in all of North America. Because of the board as well, you get about 1/4 of the selection that you get anywhere else.

I buy Ontario beer and wines here in AB for 20% less than in ON. Brutal.

Last year the LCBO paid some serious money for an external consultant to study whether it was in the best interests of the province to break up the monopoly and get privatized (in terms of prices, government profits, product variety, etc.) The external consultant came back and said HELLS YES, get privatized. The LCBO ignored the findings of the report that they commissioned, and you still get beaten over the head with Molson, Labatts, and Niagara VQA vomit.

Support your microbrews DIRECTLY....don't buy from the Beer Store or the LCBO. It's always cheaper & better.

That's actually quite a lot for someone with an MBA. An MBA is very easy to get. You don't start making executive level pay right out of school, a person typically gets paid ~$60,000 out of school with an MBA. Working for the government, that person most likely has great benefits and work hours.

I do think getting an MBA is a good idea if you plan on entering the business world, it gives you a certain amount of credibility from the get go. However, experience and hard work is much more important in the great majority of business positions. I don't know why you're downplaying that much of a salary, your father certainly doesn't have a salary anywhere close to that high!

and yes we pay more for liquor and beer in ontario. liquor is a much better deal in the states or quebec or duty free if you come back from a vacation or if you go buy it from the indians. beer however is a bit of a different story as its not the same product we are comparing if we go to the states. - it sucks! even canadian brands like "blue" which they advertise as "imported from canada" doesn;t taste like blue in ontario and doesn;t have the same effect ( weaker). so don;t buy american beer in the states. ( american beer thats brewed here like PBR -brewed in guelph by stroh's - is ok as its brewed in canadian tradition and gets you drunk!)

granted you can get beer of equal power at a cheaper price in quebec but unless you have another reason to go to french land i'd sure avoid it like a blazing case of herpes. - plus their labels are weird "bleue"? wtf? (i hate french)
