Buying new skis - head vs 4frnt

I've seen the 07 Mojo 80 I think and they looked rather dope, but if you like your STL's I'd buy next years, they are even doper.

I dont think the mojo 80 is any more park specific then the 90...just narrower.

I have MadTrix and the dimensions are close to the mojo 80's and they kill it on ice. Its unreal for a park ski. They carve really sweet.


They are quite stiff compared to other park skis but I like that. Unless you wanna butter a lot, its not an issue really.

i have had mine for 3-4 years now and still nothing wrong with em except costemic shit.

1. The STL is so much softer than any head ski (including womens and kids) that it would be a really weird transition to make.

2. If you made the original STLs last two seasons than you don't need the bomber construction of the head because it is heavier and stiffer, two things that aren't worth it for someone like you.

3. The Mojo 90 is way too stiff to ski in the park period.

4. This thread is proof that the mainstreaming of NS skiing has come full circle as kids are buying skis based on graphics the way 90% of snowboards are sold in the U.S.

In conclusion anyone who can make the old STLs last more than 10 ski days has no business on a Head anything.

P.S. Search Bar Please- every Head thread on NS makes sure to tell all the kids that Head skis are stiff.

So why can't someone ski a stiff ski in the park? Its all personal preference. If you wanna butter and shit, buy a soft ski. If not, again, personal preference with soft vs stiff.

I think the mojo 90s are more of a backmountain than park mainly because of the mounting points, the suggested on the mojo 80 is like a half forward of center. The 90s  mount of back from center

I dont understand how that is proof at all. He asked if the mojo 90 would perform in the park as well as the mojo 80 would because if there wasnt a difference he likes the 90's graphics better. There is nothing wrong with that at all.

i'm going to have to disagree with you flex.

the mojo 80/90 is a ski that does everything well, and i'd reccommend it to him over the STL. you can take it in the deep, you can carve gs turns, it holds up on ice, and it slays the park. it's totally your opinion that the mojo 90 is too stiff to ski in the park. some people, like myself, tend to prefer it. the guy also said that he doesn't do a lot of rails or boxes, but just jumps and carving up groomers. there is no reason the STLs would fall apart when they're being used for those purposes.

Go Head, they are great for park, the 80s would be better.

Heh yea if you dont ever ski pow the 90 might be a bit much and not quite as fun on the groomers. 80s should be sweet though and if you really prefer jumping stiff skis will be better for you anyway, and if your just learning on rails meaning you'll be falling on them a lot and bashing your skis into them then the sturdy construction should come in handy. As for getting next years stls, that doesn't sound like an option cuz I believe you said you'll get new ones if you can get a good deal, so new stls will probably be a bit pricey.

there is no reason to ever ski a ski under 90mm underfoot... even 90mm is skinny.

if i lived on the east coast i still wouldn't ski anything under 90mm.

Head skis are like race twin tip skis. They are stiff and pretty tough for a cap construction ski. So for this they are HEAVY.....the heavyest skis i have ever ridden. The 4FRNTs i find are tougher. The sandwich sidewall contstruction makes them strong as hell. I have heard soo many good things from the MSPs, and the TNKs look pretty bad ass, not to mention next years STLs.I would tell you to stick with 4FRNT.

My point was that his original question and the whole point of this thread is based on a total lack of ski knowledge and therefore the searchbar was to be used first. He asked if the Head was stiffer or softer than the STL, he said he liked the STL, he is simply picking his next ski on graphics it seems.

Yes the Mojo 80 and 90 are both awesome skis, and yes a heavier expert skier can do jumps and ski pipe on them I didn't say otherwise. I simply stated, and maybe not well enough, that it is a huge transition to make between those two skis and only one that someone should make if they are looking for the specific characteristics of a Head ski. That goes for any ski, you should buy it because it is what you want/need as far as dimensions and flex are concerned.

The way I sell skis is I narrow down the choices for a guy based on characteristics and when it is down to two or three similar skis sure he can pick based on hype or graphic but it helps to have some guidance.

This kid came for guidance and not one person asked him how much he weighed or what type of characteristics he is looking for in a ski. He said he liked his STLs and used them for two seasons. The Mojo series would not be the next logical thing unless he is specificlly looking for something very different from what he has. If so that is awesome, I have just never seen the 5axis manufactured STLs make it through two seasons let alone on the feet of someone whose next park ski should be the Mojo 90.

Are there much better skis for carving groomers and doing an occasional jump, of course I can name 100 probably. I wasn't recommending the STL vs. the Mojo 90 I was saying witht the difference between them which is HUGE maybe it would be good to consider a few other skis that fall in between the two.

Word. I think 104mm might be my smallest ski next year and it's called the Midfat.

I ski mojo 90's whenever I find myself in the park and they're pretty fun. I'm going to have to agree with sean about the fat ski thing too. Having more under your foot is more fun in just about any condition, not just powder like everybody seems to think. If you're a smaller guy go for the 80's, if you are over 150 go for the 90's.

ok yes i was basing my initial decision on graphics. but can you blame me? i dont wanna ride a ski that IMO looks like shit (i'm really not a fan of the new STL's...sorry steele), which is why i made this thread, so i could find out the facts other then the visual, so before i make my ski purchase i know more about the characteristics of the ski.

i live in the east and got the 90s for that reason im pumped

but its hard to compare heads and 4frnts
i hear heads are gonna lead the way soon, a little stiff and heavy, but amazing construction
