Baseball foul ball question

question if the ball hits home plate and bounces fair is it a fair or foul ball?

never hit the bat, so it cant be fair, but if the catcher cant get it, runner can advance bases.

home plate is in fair territory

so if it hits the plate and goes straight up and comes to rest on top of the plate its in fair territory

one way to know this is true is to look at how they draw the fair/foul lines on the field, they use home plate as the beginning and line it up w/ first and third base respectively

The plate is in fair territory. The foul lines run from the back point of the plate, toward first and third.
