Does anybody know anything about these thing, like will they work as say a transponder or whatever you need to getin into Delirium Dive or places such as that? and any other information would be great.. thank you
It is like a sonar system for your clothing. You have the detector, and the relector. The detector sends out a short band signal to the relector, and if your lucky it will bounce off of the reflector and back to the detector. If this happens a long sets of low pitch beeps will occur. When you get closer to the relector the beeps will become more high pitched/faster. When you are right on the victim it will be one high pitched tone.
Clothing companies like sessions, Burton, Ripzone have Recco intregrated into their clothing. But you can buy Recco and stick it on your clothing.
Well the people saving you from dying in the snow need to have it. It is pretty useless if they don't have it. I would stick going out with a guide, in a BIG group, with real avalanche transponders. They are soo easy to use now, all rescue teams have them, and they are proven to save your life.
I am not going to say don't spend the extra money on recco, it is a great system. All i am saying is maybe think about spending money on a better transponder, on Blackdiamond's Avalung.
This think will add an extra 45 mins to your life expenctency if burryed. It is great.
And if you are gonna buy a transponder,I suggest the Backcountry Access Tracker DTS. It is the easyest, best transponder in my opinion to use. It has direction, and distance. I love it.
