Replying to school paper, cave

d-spin89:
this is a descriptive opening to a story for my english class, i am open to criticism.

As I enter into the pristine cave, the damp air encompasses me. There are brilliant colors all around without any tangible source. Crystal lined walkways lead to an enormous pool of water. In the middle of the water there is a giant column rising towards the heavens and descending into the darkest depths of the earth. Around the rim of the pool are outstretching stalactites almost reaching the patiently awaiting and growing stalagmites. As I climb into the pool I feel the slick, smooth rock beneath my feet, as I am emersed into its murky waters. Steam now rises from the pool carrying the muffled cries of those who’d been here before. Now completely consumed in the water, it starts to bubble. At this exact moment I realize my deepest fear was ringing true. I am on my way to Hell!
