The germs and disease killed all the aliens. Thats pretty much it. Everyone was like that ending sucked but that was how the book was written.

another really really gay remake of something that was probably cool when it came out.
when it first came out they read the book on a radio station and entire texas or something thought aliens had invaded and started shooting shit.
^reading that is better than watching the movie, and takes less time

tom cruise is a badass in top gun, one of the greatest movies ever
harrison ford is also a badass in air force one, also one of my favorite movies.
i think tom cruise fit the part better though

Tom Cruise is a wacko whereas Harrison Ford is a pimp. But Harrison Ford would've been too old for the part. And he probably wouldn't have taken it anyway. Man, that movie was bad.

many people disliked the ending because it is "lame." but spielberg wanted to stay true to h.g. wells' book.
it is also a very unexpected ending for anyone who hasnt read the book. it is out of left field and not something you see in blockbuster films. normally, a blockbuster film leaves an audience with a feeling of excitement...perhaps of sadness...or mystery if there is to be a sequel. like the ending of pirates 1 and 2.
i thought spielberg made a good decision in maintaining the book's true ending.

I also loved the part when their house and the neighborhood blew up and debris was everywhere, so Tom Cruise just backs down the driveway with ease when everything else is destroyed around him.

i like war of the worlds. tom cruise wasn't bad in it. i never pictured him like a 'badass' until that movie.
