the US created the world baseball classic so that they could win and didnt and did not do well in the world cup. Does the US think to highly of itself in sports?

Im pretty sure the USdoesn't think poorly of itself. If you didn't notice, we would have gone on in the world cup if it weren't for assbag refs. Also, we excel in many other sports.

I'm not so positive about that one, chief. The game also depends on a little thing called effort and it was evident in the first game, a game without shoddy reffing, that the team was lacking something.

just cuz we get beat in soccer doesnt mean we dont have good sports. We continualy put out some of the best athletes known thier specific sport.. Lance Armstrong, Micheal Jordan, Micheal Johnson just to name a few.. let alone skiing... pollard, hall, dumont, rainville i believe is from VT

umm.. okay world baseball classic, send the best players and we at least wouldda made it close proably would have one... soccer is not our sport but eventually we'll b fine and compete for a world cup.. basketball the best players in the world are american, and dont give me that olympic bullshit send the miami heat or the detriot pistons not a buncha random guys and the games wouldnt b close.. real tackle football enough said. and that pretty much covers and sport tha matters in the big scheme of things

You ever think that maybe we weren't trying to pretend we're better than the world; we were instead just trying to set up a great tournament so that each country could play each other? Would fun not be a good enough reason to suggest such a tourney?

the world baseball classic was not created so that american would be able to show off to the world at how good we are at a sport we invented. the main purpose was to gain new markets primarily in south east asia but also in some parts of latin america. it was all a marketing scheme to get different regions overseas interested in baseball becuase MLB in the US is one of the biggest and most popular sports organizations in the world. if 1.2 billion people in china are following mlb in the US, well thats a lot of heads to put hats on. it isnt surprising that we lost either, many of the best players in major league baseball are hispanic and they are going to play for their own countries. but if america is not the best, ask yourself why theyre coming to this country to play ball.

im totally agreeing with you ...but they are coming to america to play baseball because the MLB is the most popular and well payed baseball organization in the world..if you can do what you love to do and get payed millions for it and become famous after living a horrible life out in the dominican rebublic or cuba dont you think your gonna choose the US

yea, we're saying the same thing but im seeing it as those players are "american" like i count them when i think of american sports. do latin american countries have more talented players? probably in many instances. i agree 100% though

They played bad in that one game. You can't judge the team due to a horirble perfermance in one game. You don't play well every single game, no one does.

But this is the World Cup. They said in the press conference that they weren't prepared. How do you not come prepared to play in the biggest sporting event of your life. The effort they put into that first game should have been the most effort they have ever put into a game. So if they were to play well, then that should have been the game to do it.

Baseball classic was dominated by the latin countries becaise they have just as many Pro MLB players as U.S, and then when they go home after the season they keep playing till sprong training.

Wo there big shot dont get your panties in a knot. It started out extremely unintelligent (USA created the world baseball classic to win) and im sorry but I don't really want to comment on complete stupidity. I actually think I have become a bit less smart from reading it.

obviously we're not going to do well in the world cup, we're not a soccer embracing nation. we shouldn't be getting 3rd in any basketball tournament though...

this would be excusable if you were from europe or something. But comeon man, you should know that most people in the US don't care about soccer and most of the best basebally players in the world aren't born in the US.

Why do we think highly of ourself in sports? Because in the sports that people actually care about in the US, we have the best players in the world playing in our country.

And even for other sports that people don't follow closely, look at the Olympic medal counts. We're pretty damn good.

who said they weren't prepared. They've been preparing for 4 years. They go through a lot of training for the world cup. They wee prepared. They jsut didn't play well. Your logic abotu putting the most into the first game isn't right. First off, they can't put every single thing into that game. They have 2 games after it. Look at how the US was more lively than italy in the second game. Even if you are supposed to put everythign in the first game, they didn't. It's a mental thing. It happens a lot for many teams, unfortunately. They stepped it up in the next two games though.

Also, even if the US is eliminated in the first round, it doens't mean they aren't good. Out of the 200 something countries only 32 qualify for the world cup. 16 of those are eliminated along with the US. Some people's logic that I have seen in this thread that the US isn't good cause they were eliminated is really stupid. 16 other countries were elminated and many didn't qualify. Amoung those that were elminated were Croatia, which got 3rd in the 98 world cup. The czech republic is alo very good. Even Paraguay and Poland are pretty good teams. Japan and South Korea too.

we have almost all of the professional sports. Football, baseball, basketball, and hockey(which isnt even american). We think highly of our sports. But to counter the world cup statement, the USA was in a group with Italy, Czech Republic, and Ghana which are all good teams. If the US had been in spain's group or portugals group where they would play teams like Iran, Angola, and Saudi Arabia they probably would have advanced. In the last world cup the US went 1-1-1 and went through, If they won their game against Ghana they still might not have gone through

^^^ ya but they didnt because of red cards and a bad ref against italy, but the us has nt been doing very well in world sports latly, in soccer we kinda suck, in hockey the olympic finals were both unamerican, same with basketball, baseball. Also we arnt very good at shit like tennis were we cant seem to beat roger federer. But we are managing to beat the world in track and field and extrenious sports like beach volleyball were we are number one. YAAAA
