So I just tried to sell my GL1 camcorder on ebay, and it didn't reach the reserve price. Yesterday I recieved a message from the guy who had the highest bid. It said:
$750.00 i am up against a deadline so if you could give me a price that would be great
Today I get this message:
What would be a price that you are willing to sell the gl1 for and i am very urgent that i get a reply i would like to purchase the camera as i won it but did not reach the resrv price so i am serious but i am against a deadline to get the camera please respond
thansk
Now I'm ready to sell this camcorder, and I want to "accept" this guy's offer, or at least talk to him and see if he's legit. Thing is, when I try and respond to his message I get an alert that says:
Attention!
We have determined you are trying to contact an eBay member with whom you are not currently involved in an open transaction. For the protection of the eBay community, we sometimes block these types of communication.
FUCK. I just want to talk to this guy and ebay won't let me. Does anyone have any suggestions? If I don't act quick I might lose this offer. I tried sending him a message on my dad's account and it said the same thing.
The only way I could send him a message (that I know of) would be to send him a second chance offer, but if I did that then he could just buy the camcorder and I'd lose money (since he offered me a lot more). PLEASE, I need your help Newschoolers. I know you can do this.

Can you contact someone at Ebay and have them contact this dude for you?

You mean contact someone who works for ebay, like an ebay official? I guess I could try that, but it says in the rules that it's against ebay policy to contact someone about a purchase/trade.
Then again, I could tell the ebay official that he just wanted to know if I was sending out a 'second chance offer', and I tried to respond but it wouldn't let me...

I tried it on my Dad's account and it wouldn't let me, do you think it's because I'm on the same computer?
If I get desperate I might send emails out to (ebayusername)@hotmail.com, (ebayusername)@gmail.com, etc etc
...or I might just make another ebay account and try that.

let me rephrase that...change your ip address, use an ebay account with a different address than your household, and dont use the word @ in your email address, do it like asdf at hotmail dot edu. try to eliminate any risks of the message being traced by ebay

Ok, I know what to do now. But I'll need someone's help...
Andrewg just made me a fake ebay id. I used it to try and send the message to the guy but it didn't work, because new ebay members aren't allowed to send messages for 3 days.
Then I went to my friend's house to try her account. She had never bought anything off ebay so I needed to verify her id with a credit card, which she DIDN'T HAVE.
So I figure if I could find someone who has an account that has their identify verified it would work. Problem is... I can't find someone that has that right now. That's where NS comes in. If someone could send this message to 215jerome I would be forever indebeted to them:
Hey, this is Doug contacting you about the GL1 from a friend's account, since for some reason ebay won't let me respond to your messages because it's "against policy". Anyways, I want to get rid of my camcorder asap, and you want to buy it, so I'm sure we could work something out. Contact me at dnb5031 at psu dot edu. I'll be looking for your email so we can work out details.

is it connected to your email, cuz you can respond throu email, you could also put it up again and make the price 2000 and have it set up for best offer wins, then he will see it and then contact you, also try clicking on his name and click contact seller, or ask seller a question, hhope it works

Well, we can't really agree on anything since I can't contact him, but I'll probably re-up the auction with a "make me an offer" option, so we can get this closed.
Thanks for the advice guys.

thats fucking sketch... for one.. ebay rules state that you aren't supposed to do that specifically. two, what if the guy isn't legit? three, you aren't protected by anything, not ebay, not paypal, not any of the rules and regulations that ebay must follow.
just relist it and contact him with the time you will put it back up for so he can be the first to buy it on a buy it now auction.

Ok, here's what's going down:
I'm chatting live with an Ebay rep (which is really fuckin' cool), and I'm sending a second chance offer, with my email attached so we can work out pricing details. If we make a deal, he'll accept the second chance offer (even though it will be for a lower price than we actually agreed on), and he'll just send the correct amount on PayPal.
I don't know if this is sketch or not, but we're doing everything through Ebay and PayPal, and I'm the seller, so I don't see how this can go wrong. If he doesn't send the money, then I just don't send the camera.
