get it down while you are sitting, then when you can do that all the time, try while standing in place to spin the pedals and land on the ground with one foot on the pedal, then both feet on the pedals, then while moving.
its really quick but I find its easier to point my toes up (so my ankle is bent with the sole of my shoe pointed towards the front wheel) and catch one pedal slightly before the other. So put your foot in a set position and let the pedal come to it, once you get one foot the other is pretty much no problem.....yah, shinguards too.
its not done how you think. all of the thrust for it actually comes from your front foot, not back foot. push down slightly with back, flick with front.
i definately suggest wearin some shinnies for your first times...i find them easier if i focus on cactching my front foot first too...its kinda like a one two BLAOW SNAP whatup in you face! kinda routine
