I saw some waterski looking things in a shop at Alta that were fatter than that. I thought it was one of those ski-boards that you mount both feet on, but flipped it over and it only had one binding. It was about 250mm, so yes, there is something wider than those. But he^ is correct; something of that width would probably not work, especially not with traditional camber and sidecut.

I dont really see the point either, but duret used to, or still does produce monoskis,
but this is marketed as a pair.
Maybe made for japan pow becuase there is a lot more pow there then any where in the world

first of all, those look fucking gay. i'd feel like a twat riding those. second, where did you get the idea that "japan gets more powder than anywhere in the world"... why would you say that? you must realise that on a website like NS with like 70000 members, if you start making things up like they;re true, you're gonna get called out...

thats phat(no pun intended)! even pollard's 150 or 160 mm underfoot prototypes aren't even that wide.
I would never get those...maybe a 130 underfoot one day but never that wide.

sorry mate i though that 551 inches on average was more then the west coast.

look i found this figure for mammoth 508 inches. so i think it's still got more but i just cant find places where in the states with a greater snowfall AVERAGE

those things are absurd, way too wide. why go past 130? by the time you have a ski thats 130waist and 170-185cm long you have more surface area than the biggest pow snowboards out there.

531 average = not all powder...
a crapload is packed down. Only up to 30-50 inches on average is powder (unless it's a hella good powder where it's 60-100)

i've skied japan and there is a shitload of pow falling every day almost, take a look at any photo of japan skiing and nearly all will show it's pow
i understand average snowfall and pow fall, but where is a site that accually meaures pow?
if you take averages of sleat vs. pow or normal snowfall you would be able to find a percentage of the snowfall that is accually pow. With it's snowfall average you would find that the pow would be alot greater then any where else

there is no site, I was estimating on how much we get here out west.
I didn't say a thing about japan...
I'm sure you get a lot of powder.
It just seems a bit much for any powder.

Effectively the problem with measuring pow depth is snow consistency... on steep slopes the west coast is deep because the snow is more cohesive and adheres better. If it was lighter and drier it wouldn't do that. It's all geography.

for 900 euro i rekon you could get nearly any ski you wanted and would perform alot better then these. It's close enough to US$1300, even racers are paying less then this for world cup equiptment. then you have to work out how exactly to fit breaks or work out a way so that your leg is not ripped off by the weight after a fall.

first off, i'm not from america so don't insult the mammoh snowfall as if you;re disproving me: i never said anything about mammoth. i was really thinking alaska or northern bc, but i guess these are more heli places...
if in fact japanese resorts do get more snow than any other well known resort, then i guess i'm the dickhead. just sounded ludicrous to me! japan may be a well kept secret- for your sake try to keep it that way! sorry.

i used mammoth as it is one of the largest snowfalls i could find, it was nothing derogative against any one it was just stating my opinions on the use of the boards
