How do you do it and what do you need to make a ski press?

actually, you dont need money. you can make an effective press for less than 50 bucks. but if your gonna go and try to build skis, you need to know a shitload more than that. you need a good understanding of composites and how they react to forces, the physics behind a ski and how it works, tools, places to buy materials, and a bunch of other shit. i know because i spent a long time researching stuff, and i built a bunch of longboards over summer. if you skate, go HERE: www.silverfish.cc they have an article about roarrocket kits. Its a kit where you can build your own deck. kinda similar. you gotta build some simpler stuff before you start doing skis, cause they take a huge amount of abuse, and its alot easier to learn while building a deck instead.

i bet if you slowly ran it over with a car it would have an alright effect. Put the mold on the ground and lift the tip and tail up while your friend lets the car idle and run it over. It would be easier than building a press but it might not work well.

Composites = fibreglass. glass fibres suspended in epoxy. if you want to make a decent ski, use triaxial fibreglass. that just means the fibres run 3 directions. physics of a ski - it needs camber, thats up and down flex. Find your favorite ski and copy the camber. sidecut - makes you turn. copy the sidecut from your favorite ski. In fact, you could make 'tools' (molds) for your new ski simply by 'reverse engineering' (taking apart) a ski you like. Its illegal though. Better yet, use carbon fibre, but its $40 a yard just for the fibre. Dont let all the tech shit scare you.
