Well now its the end of my gr.11 year and gr.12 is around the corner. Im starting to take a look at uni's and am wanting to head'er to montreal. Im looking at these 2 universities.. I want to be in the city seeing as how i have lived in this tiny ass town for 17 years. But anyways I would love to get into mcgill (great party school, and achedemic.) I'm going to apply for the BCOM program (bachelor of commerce) and I was wondering what the minimum average for admission was.. if any of you guys knew. I can't for the life of me find it on that god dam website of theirs. Is pretty rediculous. And also how is like the studednt life in the dorms and stuff... My other option if i dont make the grades for mcgill would be concordia.. They have one of the best business programs in Canada... But it is a much smaller school and ive herd that its just packed with middle eastern people.. lol... hmm and they have shit for housing.. But ya if you guys go to either concordia or mcgill just tell me a bit about each one... AND YES I HAVE USED THE SEARCH BAR SO STFU... Just none of the the threads seem relevant enough for the info that i want.. haha thanks peace guys.
Well, as you already know Mgill is a better school than Concordia, but by no means is Concordia a bad school.
Both schools have great party scenes, since your downtown montreal.
Finding a place shouldn't be that hard either, since there's always tons of people looking for roomates around Montreal.
Skiing wise you have avila which is about a 40 minute drive, it's a small hill with a sick park and is pretty empty during weeknights. Then there's Tremblant which is about 80 minutes or so from mtl, and is a decent sized mountain with a good park but no night skiing (downside is that its expensive). You also got jay peak which is about 80 minutes also, and if you go on any of the powder days (yes, powder days in the east exist) you can get some amazing tree skiing in.
isn't concordia more of a continuing education uni, which means more older people?
and besides, do you want to deal with uppity jews and palestinans bring their arguement into a canadian school. fuck that, id tell them both to shut the fuck up. there was a time mcgill didn't allow jews in the school even during and after the war according to my grandfather who did engineering there. i guess the jews went to concordia.
its like comparing ryerson with u of t. havn't you heard of business schools such as schulich or ivey?
im still looking at these 2 schools you guys... ANY imput on either would be a SICK help.. im applying for BCOM and any info on grades and stuff would help tremendously.
John Molson School of Business at Concordia is becoming really well regarded. Concordia is pretty sick, The Student Union organized a free Wycleff Jean concert for the students this year! I have a few friends in that program (BCOM) right now and they say its pretty good, Plus they have a ski and snowboard club that hooks up some sick shit.
Im transfering next semester. Mcgill if I get in...if not Concordia. They are both solid schools, Mcgill having a stronger reputation. But with that reputation comes hardwork. Keep that in mind...Oh yea Party mofo!
^ Ya thats how i'm looking at it... Mcgill and if i dont get in ...Concordia. And then just transfer to mcgill second year if i have the grades. Pease keep it comin.. BUMP
Oh, and since you said you wanted to be in a big city, and you said you want to go to a well recognized school, but have you considered Queens University? It's in Kingston, ON, with a metropolitan population of around 150,000 so it may not be big enough for your needs, but I've heard good things about their business program there, and my high school band teacher (laugh it up) went there. I've visited the campus and it's very nice.
Dude since you're going into Bcom Im going to say Concordia(Im there in the same program(marketing major), but dont think im biased or anything, Ill talk trash about the school too)
Main reason would be that McGill first and foremost a school for sciences. It is also not student oriented at all, basicly all classrooms are 300 people auditoriums, meaning no 1 on 1 with the teacher. If you'd be going in anything other than journalism or business, Id say go to Mcgill; but Concordia's Bcom is in fact better recognized than McGill's. Reason so many people end up going there is because McGill has a more reputable name.
Concordia has smaller classes(about 40-50 students). The grades to get into either one of the schools Bcom program is pretty similar. I got into both, I ended up choosing Concordia after people who had started at Mcgill in Bcom switched to Concordia.
Also what is really great about Concordia is that their business program offers a coop. If you have the grades to get in, I advise you to do so. Basicly you get to go on paid work terms while your at Concordia for jobs that are related to your field. You come out of it with a year and a half of job experience(which is really the most important thing if youre going into business). Ill admit it, most of the people in the coop are extremely nerdy and well...not good looking. But I slept with the only hot girl(shes really hot) in it(some jewish chick) and I was pretty happy about it.
Apart from that both schools have similar party scenes, neither compare to Queens or Bishops, but thats what you get for being in a big city. If you go to Concordia, make sure to go to the Pub Crawl during frosh, its sick, Im definetely going to try and be a frosh leader next year.
As for the person who said only middle-easterners go to Concordia, you're wrong. There are a BUNCH of asians everywhere too(still not as bad as McGill's asian scene, its like fucking Vancouver). But yeah dont worry, there are always a bunch of hot slutty random girls going to class as well, make the most of it.
Naw man, the only reason more continuing ed people might come to Concordia is because it offers more flexible schedules, like theres no problem getting night or weekend classes if you want. Mcgill doesnt have that.
And as for the jewish, palestinian thing, I thought it would super bad when I started there. But really theres no problems that have started between the two. Like sure they are everywhere, but nobody started some gay arguments yet
great reply, but concordia isnt all downtown, my sis goes and shes in communications, i dunno about for BCOM but she has classes in montreal west near my high school and has some business classes in downtoen, commerce is prolly all in downtown, so whatever. also, im pretty sure that mcgill has a better business prgram than concordia, but conordia media and communications is excellent
I go to McGill, and if you come here with an antisemitic attitude i'll break your fucking skull. That aside....
I know next to nothing about Concordia. From what I've heard the hardest part of management (commerce) at mcgill is getting in. it is by FAR the biggest party faculty. they also never have class on friday, somthing to keep in mind for skiing. As for skiing there are some good hills around montreal for sure. I ride Avila and Jay, for $300 you can get a seasons pass that works at BOTH. and student life in res is rediculous. party 7 nights a week if you want to. try and get into Upper Rez. Come out and bring your skis, but leave your ignorance back in your small town.
