One of my friends want to commit suicide

ok so one of my friends wants to commit suicide hes considered it before but this time im afraid he'll actually do it. what should i do?

get off of ns and go chill with him.
bring a cell and call the suicide hotline. someone will connect you to a local center and somebody locally will come. don't leave him alone, man.

it'll sound stupid but you really should tell his parents and call that number..
when i was in 8th grade my friend said she would do that and she has a depression problem..and that was on a friday.. that monday & tuesday she was gone from school and i was so worried..no one answered when i called her house.. and then i found out taht wednesday that it was a joke and she was on vacation or something.. i kinda stopped being friends with her after that. i actually thought she committed suicide. seriously though. tell his parents or do something to stop him from doing it.

well if you really think he is serious tell his padres, a school consouler the cops any one in any psoition of authority will do. if you dont think it will happen right away talk to him and ask him if he has a plan (only if he has told you about it. other wise that ask him if he is considering it.0 talk to him as much as possible. as a last resort you can always go over there and stop him yourself. but the main thing is take everything he says seriously even if it sounds like he is just jokeing.

we had some motivational speaker coem to our school. he said 7/10 kids (70%) between the ages of 16-19 think about suicide.

Even more of a reason you need to tell this kid to suck it up and realize he's only got a few more years til the REAL problems start. There's plenty of people that have it way worse than him.

k any 13 year old would just say shit like that for attention. no 13 year old would actually kill himself. and i agree with everyone who told this kid to suck it the fuck up. and whats his reason for wanting to kill himself? does he feel hes lesser of a person than everyone else for no reason? if so thats utter bullshit.

In my experience with this, it seems the best thing to do, is date them. Apparently, at the time my 15 year old mind decided that would be a grand idea when I was faced with this situation a few years ago...

oh wait.
no. no don't do this.
it just makes them write dark music and say you're the only thing keeping them alive.

yeah but no, just be there for them and let them know that despite this world being ridiculously futile, there are still things that are worth living for, even though most of everything is pretty much worthless.

when i was, umm, 14? my friend said he tried to but it didnt work, like OD on pain killers a few times. so one day while we were smoking a blunt i decided that i should talk to him about it. ask your friend why and get him to totaly vent all his problems on you. just reassure him. maybe you have some common problems (like divorced parents). it worked. but i wasnt 100 % sure he was actually going to do it. if you think your friend will actually do it then def tell someone, even your parents it would probably be easier
and yeah try to get him laid or something.

Be a good friend and call him, and if he doesn't answer call the suicide hotline or his parents. Call him up, talk to him, don't try to get him to laugh like the kids up there said. If he's actually considering taking his own life, then laughter isn't what he needs right now. Just tell him that you care about him, and that he shouldn't commit suicide because not only will it devastate his family, but also you. Take everything he says seriously, and open up. Just don't joke around or try to get him to laugh or shit, that will only bottle him up. But seriously, call him, and if he doesn't answer then find the suicide hotline number. Think about it, if he killed himself, would you want to know that you could've prevented it, but didn't because you were afraid that he would get angry because you called the number. Stop at nothing to make him know that you care, and if that doesn't work, just keep him alive.

wow now htat ive looked back i can think about 3 people off the top of my head who considered killing themselves. it was cause they felt they were ugly and that no one liked them. they talked about it, and they had it allllll over their msn screen names and they messaged me asking me for help because they felt so shitty. being a nice person, i did my best to aid them and also it didnt seem to convince them. also, if you gave them a vial of poison to kill themselves, they would never take it. and this was back when i was about 13. same shit happened and it was just little immature people looking for attention without realising it. by this story the threadmaker gives, im lead to believe this is the same situation. unless this guy/girl actually has serious problems such as her whole family got murdered and shes living with the shittiest foster parents in existance, there is no reason for her actions.

if the reasons you don't want to tell his parents/the hotline are:

He'll say he was just kidding and that you're stupid for taking it seriously, just tell him that no one should joke around about that.

If he says he hates you for betraying him, tell him that the reason you did is because you care about him.

There's no reason not to tell someone, if you can't personally talk to him.

Not always. Freshman girl at my old High School committed suicide this year. Hung herself in the shower while her parents were only feet away.

and how often does stuff like this happen? very rarely. the majority of people who commit suicide are middle aged people who couldnt make anything of themselves. lets stick to statistics here. please see the following link and look for patterns as to the likelyhood of this person taking actions to his word

If anyone makes the statement "Im going to kill myself" in a non-satirical fashion we must treat that statment as true. To err on the side of caution is the purdent course of action in this case.

My mom used to work for St. Johns Ambulance and a lady who worked with them for a long time said that 90% of suicides are from people who just go out and do it without anyone knowing. I know 10% is still a good chunk of people but most of the time these people do it for show/attention. I had the same situation with a friend a little while back but she just needed to clear her head out a little bit, plus her family is fucked right up.

Ya I never really understood why suicide was a crime because its a personal choice. Getting thrown in the slammer is a real incentive to make sure you actually kill yourself.
