THeir new cd is complete shit, yea i know that Davey had a sith on his voice box and had to get it removed with doesnt allow him to scream in the ranges that he could hit prior, but the direction of the band has turned 180 degrees from the art of drowning cd.... Im very dissapointed in their decisions, this is an example of selling out
in this day and age, emo can mean a multitude of things...
if your asking, do they sound more like dashboard confessional? no.
if yout asking if its more of a mychem sound, thats alot more reasonable of a comparison
i'm assuming you heard miss murder.. their single was pretty good, but i like the other songs better especially Prelude 12/21 and number2 ... not the name of the song i just cant remember the name... wait it think ts kill causetic or something
if you compare their new cd and sing the sorrow to stay fashionable, and black sails, they sound nothing a like, their content is completely different. They have taken a turn for the worst
i used to love afi, back in the totalimmortal days. now they just plain blow. their new c.d. is a pile of shit. its aggrivating that i have "afi_fan" inmy e-mail address. :(
sing the sorrow and black sails have similar content, for instance:
Dancing through sunday (sing) = Narrative Of Soul Against Soul (black)
sing is a lot more slowed out , bigger bass rifts and more poopy, but it is still a sick, veyr sick album.....as for the newest album, i don't even knwo the name, but what i ahve heard fomr ti sucks .....they are imitating other bands when they have been such leeders in thier field they should stick to what they have or continue on thier own path, instead of trying to meet popular demands.....
however, they ahev been in the band game for a veyr evry long time.....and i think they are finally craving some money, oi mena htye have done it thier whoel lives and don't have shit to show for it ( as in for retierment etc...and as mature adults they need to start looking into these thigns fopr thier future....i am could you stay punk forever and never sell out?
what makes you think that you can interfere with the way we talk, and not interfere when the vans broken down? (yeah, right) answer that and stay fasionable!
They're just steadily "progressing" as so many bands do, climbing the mountain of shittiness hoping to summit the peak and suck the dicks of all the other faggots at the top (read Good Charlotte, Blink 182, etc.)
Yeah...they were sold out to Dreamworks a few albums ago.. so it's been a while now. Either way, I like their music, although I too am dissapointed in Decemberunderground.
jesus christ, you're the same bitch from the mac post...
well my friend, once again you're wrong... check out the pics below of an old A.F.I. show.. notice the small venue and crowd they're playing to at the time, which would mean it was when they were still in their earlier stages.. quite a few years ago.. before emo ever became defined to what it is today.
I would say their best was more like 10 years ago.
The guys in the band are some of the most genuine people I have ever met. They have brought friends of mine bands on tour where instead of playing to 200 kids everynight they had full houses in the 2-3000+ range. Sold lots of merch and made new fans...really helps out a small band that usually is losing money on tour and surfing on couches.
I love how people talk about them selling out. Davey started to look like a woman 10 years ago so in my mind he hasnt changed who he is at all, just progressed. They are all still solid guys, when I was in Seattle a few years ago with some friends we found out they were playing and a couple calls later we got guest listed, backstage passes, and all the perks like food.
They have probably done more for hardcore than most "hardcore" bands. They have flown out hardcore kids to be in videos, bring smaller bands on tour, and plus Davey is still one of the most edge people I have ever met.
I still like AFI as do a lot of true hardcore kids but I must say their old stuff circa 96-98 were some of the best stuff I have ever seen live. Love the pictures...those look like they were from the tour they did with Sick Of It All and he does look like he does now...and that was when they werent even headlining so it must be years and years ago now.
the first emo record was released in 1985 and afi's 1st release was in like 93, almost 10 years after the 1st official emo record, so therefore they havent been around before emo and they dont even sing emo so i dont know what you're trying to prove. he wears makeup? so what! pretty much every rock genre does.
