"hypertext markup language" is the authoring software language used on the internet. most basic pages that you see on the internet are created by HTML. they use codes (very similar to the IMG tags on NS) to tell the internet what to do. these codes are surrounded by "< >" and range from very simple codes to very complex ones. in more advanced webpages, it's used in combination with other codes, such as Java or css stylesheets. it's a pretty sweet thing.
