Wondering why everyone loves L1P

I just finished watching S6 and although a good movie, it wasn't bermans best or second best for that matter. So my question is Why does every kid have a hard on for L1P and Berman and every kid that joins this website hops on the L1P bandwagon. Poor Boyz movie last year was by far the best with TBC coming in a close second. To me S6 was just a skiing rip off of the robot food guys and it didn't impress me that much. Why can't Berman create something new, I know that he has the ability and desire, but for some reason that last two films are carbon copies of old snowboard films.

you clearly have zero idea of what good music is then....The Secret Machines, Bloc Party, Zion I, Tribe Called Quest? Go see any of those groups live when you are old enough to get into a music venue and then make that statement...

ok. was a good thread, but it almost immediatly turned intobash everyone elses opinions.
the thing is, is we (and the guys producing movies) are all individuals. we all have our own style. some people are all about charging, some people are all about having a blast, others are all about being super creative.
for me personally being what i think of as a very creative person and an artist, no one captures how i look at skiing better than plehouse. to me, the awesome cinomotography, creativity in shooting, editing, and tricks is how i view my sport.
other people just wanna see balls to the wall, huge tricks and skiing. thats cool too. not saying i dont enjoy those movies, but people relate to things differently. thats all. this whole argument is pointless, because its all just opinions, and thats it.

well this is all preference obviously, but i thought s6 was second to whiteshine this year. hit list had a few moments (mike douglas's segment), booter crunk was ok, and i didn't like war at all (some sick shots, sure, but the editing annoyed the crap out of me). L1P always has sick urban stuff...i really enjoyed the ridiculous bomb drop butters and all that. i wouldn't say it was good enough to be called a robot food ripoff. i think for the most part, ski movies just aren't yet as good as snowboard movies. in my opinion, plehouse is the notable exception.

I'll admit the bloc party was good. I can't stand A Tribe Called Quest, Zion I, or any rap music whatsoever. Just because we have different music tastes doesn't mean you can go around making an accusation in an attempt to prove your opinion as fact. I prefer The Mars Volta, Shiny Toy Guns, M83, Mum, Cut Copy, Lucknow Pact, that sort of thing. Now Im not saying you suck for not agreeing, but just remember that we all have a right to our own opinion. Don't be such a jerk, d00d.

Shanghai flowed so well, had such a good vibe to it. War seemed jumpy, I could'nt watch it without skipping around. War did have some sick shots, but the overall product was dissapointing. I guess each film crew has there own style of shooting and editing, I just find Level 1 really captures what I love in skiing. I can't even imagine what Josh, Neil and Freedle would do if they had anywhere near the budget crews like MSP and PBP have. Berman has exposed so much talent. Who usually move onto filming with a bigger crew. But every year he's got new kids throwing down.
Tgr is weird. They always have a few sick segments. But always have some quirks in thier movies that kills the vibe. Lately they seem to be moving away from jibbing... which is fine, but the jibbing they do have is dissapointing. You know some of the skiers can do more than what you see on film.
Whiteshine was really good. Booter crunk was a way overhyped dissapointment. TBC I would say came in 3rd to whiteshine. Pop Your Bottelz was interesting, had it's high's and lows. I walked out of the premiere of hit list. I enjoyed bogart a lot. 91 words for Snow might be my favorite movie of last year though. I could watch it over and over.
I don't hate big mountain skiing. I just find that repetive left right turns get boring. I like technical lines and progressive shit, or the skiing of someone like hugo who charges.
It just seems that a lot of film companies are getting to predictable year to year. Using the same formula over and over. Someone needs to make Future Proof with skiing.

What? Shanghai only really had 2 "rap" songs. The rest of the movie was pretty diverse in music selection.

bah! I didn't like the others either!
SH6 had awsome cinematography and Berman is the man but i just didn't like the music, its as simple as that.

How could you not understand what's happening. I thought it was fairly simple. I liked the comic book thing. It was new, and I thought it strayed away from what is usually done. I thoguht it offered a good flow too. I will admit that cactus thing was really wierd. I know PBP isnt as creative as others, but it's not like they have a tremendous lack in creativity.
If you want creativity, watch plehouses films. they are better than the rest.

It was good, but let's just say that RAGE is a work in progress and their next film is sure to be one of the best.

For me it is several factors. Starting with the riders. L1P has such a better selection or riders than PBP, which is a big factor. Also, L1P has supperior angles and shots of the riders. PBP uses the same angles in all of their movies, and it just gets boring. MAINLY, the music. Music is a huge factor to me when it comes to ski movies. Pete and Mike Olenik are among my favorite skiers today, but I had so much trouble sitting through their part in War, because the music was so terrible. That is the kind of music that does NOT belong in a ski movie, and I dont care if it was a joke or what, it was just unbearable. L1P has prime musical assortment to go along with their skiers, and the best shots, locations, and riders.

Sh6 was my first L1P movie. I think that it is up there in quality with Plehouse, and the artistic quality in both was terrific. Sh6 was worth every penny for me. If I could only find the hidden extras.....

level one has been going steadily downhill since forward. strike three in my opinion was thier dopest movie ever, it had that hip hop flavour before errbody was trying to do it, and they pulled it off well with a sick list of riders throwing tricks that are cool by todays standards. the urban rails they did were dope and it had an overall good feel. forward had some good parts but some real sleepers as well, i didnt like high five at all, and i definately thought S6 was one hundred percent over rated (with the exception of liam downeys part which is dope) bad lighting in tonnes of the shots, predictable choice of music, just a boring movie that i felt like i'd watched before the first time i saw it. however, liam downey poaching pyramid was wayy gnar.

Once people start making good ski movies I'm sure a lot of peoples opinions will change. Plehouse is starting to do it, Off Trail was on the right track last year, there just needs to be a little bit more.

you know what poor boyz is missing, eric iberg, that guy knew how to make a movie, check ready, fire, aim for an example. also, the best flowing movie ever has to be red tape. pleahouse, and L1P both do a good job in making it a complete movie, not segments that are slapped together. this is what MSP has lost, sure they have awsome stuff, but it wouldn't really matter what order you played it in.

Wow. I mean I LOVED Shanghai and some of the dudes that ride for L1 are out of this world, but seriously, PBP's bullpen looks like a fuckin allstar team. JP, Seth, Pep, CANDIDE, Olenicks, Mahre, Symms(who I think had one of the best styled parts this year) the list goes on and on.
That said, I love watching guys like Vanular, Rainville, Steele, Coker, Redd, etc. But PBP is just unreal talented. No one can deny that.

Shanghai Six is one of my favorite movies. The editing was good and the soundtrack wasnt too bad. Plus it has a lot of sweet extras that I enjoy watching. I thought WAR was an alright film but not as good as Shanghai Six. I though WAR was short and I ddnt like how they did the credits and then went back to the movie. That was just stupid. Definately not one of Johnny Decesare best movies. X or TEN is a sweet PBP film.

I think everybody likes L1P cus the riders in it aren't ridiculously famous, but they are still sick. It gives everyone the feeling that someday they can be in a ski movie too.

yea people also like watching the same jumps, rails and tricks over and over again performed by different people. It's what really sets them apart.
