i would say the GL2 is the absolute best. everything is right at your fingertips and the quality is unbeatable.

the ag-dvc30 has good quality, but they arent that good of cams. my friend has had several problems, and one annoying thing is that the handle is detachable so it does not have a record button or zoom on it, so that is annoying for me. i would get the GL1 GL2 or any vx (1000,2000,2100). it basically depends on what colors you like. the gl cameras are more of a fake-ish color. for me, the vx is more realistic, but any of them would be fine.

whatever you say man, but i think you will be very dissapointed if you get that panasonic. in my opinion, panasonic is only worth it for HD cameras, their 3ccd cameras are not up to par with gl's or vx's. you would be much better off to pay the extra money for the vx or gl now rater than being unhappy with the panasonic and then having to spend more mone on a gl or vx.

If you are going to get a 3CCD camera of that calibur I'd reccomend the Sony vx2100 better low light capacity, better microphone, better colors. The GL2 has a very good image stabilizer but I'd rank those cameras in the following order
1.vx2100
2.GL2
3.Panasonic 3 Chip model

It depends on which 3 chip model you are looking at for Panasonic, the DVX beats out all of those cameras.

the Pan DVX-100ap is by far the best 3ccd cam for the money. dont f_uck with the sony vx or cannon gl bull sh_it. between canon gl2 and pan dvc-30, go with the dvc30. it has superior optics ( leica 16x optical ) and better color reproduction. plus it shoots in 30 frames per second which looks tight. all in all, get the DVX-100ap

i was referring to the dvc 30 besides the HVX is kinda in a different category, it films onto hard drive or something, i don't know much about it

ok first of all, the GL2 is a low end, mid range camera, if that makes any sense.
The Panasonic DVX is proabably the best 3CCD cam you can get that isn't HD.
I have a GL2 and I like it, but I would rather have a DVX. As for the DVC-30, it just looks kinda cheap. Yes it has a Leica lens, which blows the canon lens out of the water, but the whole handle thing, meeeeeeh.

i haven't used them all, but i can tell you what i hear from my friends with lots of camera knowledge. we used a vx2000 this year which is freaking sweet...awesome camera. the 2100 is better, but from what i've heard isn't really worth the extra money. we're currently working on choosing a camera for next season because it looks like we won't have the vx, and i think we're leaning panasonic. the GL2 units aren't bad, don't get me wrong. you can definitely shoot good vid on the cannon, but i think the sony is the best overall, and the panasonic is the best for the money.

If you shoot lots of fisheyes, and make a skater style movie, then VX rocks. For the filmy look, GL2 rocks. I hate skater style movies and I almost always shoot long lens so I got a GL2.

^Yea, what is a statement with no defensive perameter on Newschoolers. My group and I used a GL2 to shoot a fucking fatty movie for film class and won best of show at the festival, and we credit it to the camera. Yo tanakaskier, how can you call it low end tho, isnt it like $1700 and they shoot porn with em?

Pani DVC80
High End:
Canon XL2
Pani DVX
High Def:

^^^that's good info. makes a lot of sense. we've used the vx to shoot both, but i can see where you're coming from about it being a more skater-friendly camera. maybe we'll think more about the gl2 then.

GL2 is equal and different than the VX actually... definitley not lower end. Parts wise certainly cheaper to build as the VX is a metal tank, but colour chip and all that bs wise its definitley on par and in many respects better.
GL2 just produces better reds and greens with a softer look, on a sunny day it unquestionably outshines the VX. I do however, envy the manual zoom ring on the VX and the low light performance.
I guess as far as oranges go, my apple kicks ass.

I reasearched cameras for about 2 years before I decided on a vx1000. I didn't have the money for the vx2100 and almost bought a dvx on ebay for $1500 which would have been a steal but I didn't. If you compare the gl2 and the vx1000 I think the vx's colors are much better. If I had a few grand I would go out and but a pani in a second but I don't. For the money I think the vx1000 is still the best camera out there. It was also the first camera with the infamous death lens. If you have the money go with a 2100 if not go with a 1000.

the vx1000 colors seem to be fake and very druged up im looking at the pani dvc30a for the price it seems to be very good and its great in low light its very similar to the vx1000 but has more realistic colors.

The manual setting take care of that look. I'd rather see warm colors then cold. Especially if you're filming against snow, you need all the color you can get.

Their 3ccd cameras are not up to par? Really?
Do you know much about cameras? They have this camera that's been out for a couple years now, the DVX series, I've heard they are pretty good and the DVC-30 is a toned down version of the DVX without 24p, but it's standard def so it must suck because they are only good for HD cams.

ive got the dvc30 and have used a gl2. the dvc blows it away. everything about the camera is great. look at my newer videos if you want to see the quality of the cam

i was more reffering to the ag-dvc30. yes the quality is good, and it is better then a gl, but i dislike many things about the camera, and i would mainly get a panasonic if i was getting an HD one.

true if you have good manual settings but if your not good at setting them then it looks kinda shitty but i see your point with as much color as you can get for sking

What is it that you dislike about the camera specifically?
It's not made cheap, it has a magnesium body much like the DVX. It has killer glass with a good zoom. The video quality is excellent. The only legit gripe about it is the handle lacking the record and zoom controls.
To the original starter of this thread...
Go with whichever one you like better. The truth about these cams is that they are all very good and all of the griping is over personal preferences.
One thing to watch out for with the GL series cameras is the tape mechanism breaking. MAKE SURE YOU BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR WHATEVER CAM YOU CHOOSE.

I like how the GL2 is softer and looks more natural. In custom presets I even turn sharpness down. VXs aren't my style.
