when i first got it i was like, meh there are only two good songs on here. but i have been listening to it more, and everything on there is kick ass. i love vicarious and jambi, but i think the pot and rosetta stoned are starting to surpass them. it just made me realize that tool doesnt have any bad songs.
what does everyone else think of the new cd?

pick a band that you think is more talented than them then post your opinion for all of us to see.

he asked for our personal opinion. thats mine. just because you listen to tool and wear flamer shorts and flipped up bleach blonde hair dosent mean everyone has to think tool is gods gift to the universe.

he asked what you thought of the new cd...not what you thought of the band.
I think the cd is amazing...a little bit different than past albums, but thats expected. 10,000 days is an awesome song..i like all the songs on it.

uh, i dont think i have ever seen a tool fan with flamer shorts and bleached hair. that is more emo than metal.

Keenan's voice pisses me off.

I think that that is definitely pop, not emo. But either both are lame.
The new album is rape good.

Whne i first got the album, I was really disapointed, five years and all we get are to me 3 good songs. the more i listened to it the more it grew on me and hearing some of the new stuf live hepled to (i was one of the lucky ones to get me ticketts to the tower show in philly). but i still dont think it is on eof thier best, My favorite thing about tool is maynards vocals , and on the new album i found the to be rather weak. Before you all jump down my throat i am not tallking about lyrical content, but vocal presence. i found the lyrical content on the new album rather intriguing. i just didnt like the use of voice distertion in rosetta stoned. i also wonder that if wings for marie/10,000 days is such emotional song, why the lack of emotionin maynards vocals. musically i like it but still not up to par with thier other albums i give it a B+ but it is still better than most of the other shit out there just not up to "in my opinion" what they had done previously.
i wuld personally rank tools albums in this order
1: Aenima
2: Opiate
3: Lateralus
4: Undertow
5: 10,000 days

When I first got the CD I thought the artwork and packaging made this CD one of my favorites to look at.
To me all tool albums take a while come to an overall viewpoint of an album, particularly when looking at the change between expectation, first impression and final judgment. Maynard seems to do some experimenting on this album, he abandons his scream which I feel is one of the best, and attempts a variety of different styles some of which are successful and some not so, but in the end I like to see progression in each new tool album. I do see progression in this album but will not pass judgment on it until I listen to it a lot more.

a friend who is a little too into music and done way to many drugs me emailed me this. I haven't tried it but if it works it sounds fucking sick...
By the way, I didn't know if you knew this. But, If you burn both Viginti Tres followed by Wings for Marie. Then play that track as one with 10,000 days as another track and play both at the same time, Both Wings for Marie AND 10,000 days sync. It is like an 8 piece band but it all FLOWS It flows like one song. The vocals, drums, the guitar riffs, everything flows! Both songs get heavy at the same point at 9 minutes and 14 seconds in. The vocals wisp back and forth almost like a conversation during the sync,It's UNREAL !
Tool meant these tracks to synch.. If you look at the track times, "10,000 days" is 11 mins and 13 seconds long.. When you add the track times of "Viginti Tres" and "Wings for Marie" it adds up to 11:13 as well.. Look at the album cover ! There are 3 faces with one in the front.. They meant for all three tracks to play as one song for the self-title track "10,000 days"

I don't really know, I haven't got the chance to try it (not sure if i believe it yet). It sounds like you need to burn the two together on your computer with no gap between songs and play 10000 days on another CD player at the same time.

That is off the hook... that is similiar to how Lateralus is. If you rearrange the songs according to the Fibonacci sequence, the whole CD plays as one neverending song...
Tool=incredible, if you say otherwise, then your opinion is actually wrong.

pshh, the Flaming Lips did that years ago, they had a whole CD that was four parts you had to play at the same time.

The band, Maynard included, wanted the vocals to take less of prominent roll. This is partially why they decided to produce the record themselves. In the past, Maynard's vocals have always driven the songs and are just simply louder on the production. The band wanted to move away from that and in their solution was to have Maynard's vocals drop more into the rythm of the music as a whole to create a more ambient tone, which they've been moving towards ever since their live album (think "Third Eye" live).
The new album is more abstract then other albums and I really think it's quite good. Danny Carey is amazing as usual. He's one of the major players in keeping music innovative today. He never repeats himself on an album no matter which band it's with. Maynard's approach to the album was awesome. I like the overdubbing, which was something he's never done before and as noted earlier, the more holistic approach to the vocals. I admit, I rarely pay too much attention to the bass, but Justin def. kicks ass on this album, as you have to if you're rythm partner is Danny Carey.
Adam Jones kicks ass in my opinion. My friend James who's pretty much a master player on the guitar, really hates the repetitiveness of the 4/5 time signature and says it's really not progressive. Point taken, but I think this album is departure in terms of the sound as whole for the band. There's some metal elements in there too and that's really nice to see.
Anyways, that's my two cents.
Oh yeah, and whoever that piece of shit at the top was talking shit to Lat: Get your pathetic ass off this fucking web site if you don't having anything constructive to say. Fuck you.

i enjoyed your anaylsys of the album jack, and agree with it whole hartedly. the reason it is down on my list, is i am a huge fan of the strong vocals from maynard. and i feal adam dosent have the gusto (for lack of a better word) on this album either. the eclectic riffs from prior albums just arnt there. but i do agree that justin and danny have achieved new heights of greatness on this album, and agree that justin has never been the most impressive member but does really shine. and well danny is just danny and copletely insane. again when i saw them last month at the tower i did the same thing i di at most of my recent tool shows, watch Danny play his kit in complete amazement.
and for all that sinced and play together it does this or that, i dont know maybe. BUT DID YOU KNOW IF YOU PLAY DARK SIDE OF THE MOON WITH THE WIZARD OF OZ IT IS AMAZING:)

yeah and if you play that revolution #9 backwards it says paul is dead and got dumped by a bitch with one leg.
I have no idea if that whole sync thing is true, thought it sounded cool. I haven't felt like trying it, but I'm sure someone will. just passing an email i got from a really interesting fucked up friend who loves Tool. It's funny what people hear in music when they want to or are told this or that.

dno ive only heard a few songs, but i liked the older stuff where maynards voice is more monotonous cuz in this one he tries to vocalize a little too much and too me it takes away from the tool originality. but there is one song that is amazing, they are a really good band
