its global climate change. This is so because the whole earth is NOT warming up. The global conveyer belt is stopping which just means there is going to be no seasons. Some places will get colder too. For example, Maine has 4 very different seasons right now. Eventually it might end up being winter year around with no different seasons.

wow are you retarded? differences in temperatures IS WHAT DRIVES WEATHER PATTERNS!!! if you are right, which you arent, then there wouldnt be storms or wind. those are all caused by pressure/temperature differences amoung areas. global climate change or warming would mean more active weather patterns due to warmer water= more evaporation. freshwater in the ocean can only slow down the current for a slight bit, which might mean colder temps in europe and NE us for a few years then the water will warm back up.....what im saying is that the current will slow only due to water density but itll start back up again and even warmer with warmer southern waters that built up while the current slowed. the faster current is from the new density changes with water temp.

and if you understood my post thats the reason why eitehr the conveyor belt wont matter or itll kick in more. 1. no conveyor belt but warming atmosphere= the direct warming of waters. 2. the north cools and south warms...bigger change in temp and density. after the icecaps are fully melted and the freshwater effect is gone then the conveyor belt kicks in alot more than before from the higher amount of difference which will warm the norht at a quick rate and to almost equal temps

oh and if the north atlantic oscillation was slowing, which it might be as you say, then why has the northeast had warmer than average temps for the past few years? it doesnt make sense. maybe it is slowing, but its not having the cooling effect. or maybe the warm water from the south has more time to set in the north therefore warming the water and after the warm water that comes north cools, it slowly goes south but at a slower rate than southern waters are flowign north.........

so the weather goes through periods of above average warmth and below average cold spells over large periods of time, so im not saying its not global warming, but it is true that in large spells of time the earths temperature flucuates above or below the norm

it doesnt really matter too much tho for eastern us except right along the coast because our cold air comes from canada...usually northwest canada where it builds up and unlocks itself thus causing winter in the east! yay

Bristol, you are right on. Phillip has no clue what he is talking about. Phillip, why don't you actually go to school for a few years and maybe study meterology and then open your mouth again only to retract all your statements here.
If the conveyor belt actually stopped, which it possibly has in the past, there would cease to be seasons. But, we would find ourselves on an earth covered in ice thicker than we ahve ever seen. The entire earth would be covered because there would be so much reflection from the advancing ice caps that eventually all heat would be reflected away from earth.
Your graph makes no sense as well, in terms of your argument. All it asys is taht the average mean temperature across th earth is increasing. And to those who say that the earth goes through natural cycles: it may do that, but these cycles are much much longer, about 100,000 years and we have never seen an interglacial period of this length, or temperatures this high in history. THere has never been as little ice as there is today on earth. This is why scientists are worried. THe cycles of warming aren't 40 years, but, 100,000 years, so we have sped it up way too fast.

Firstly, there will never 'cease' to be seasons, our orbit around the sun means there will always be some seasonal variation in temperature.
Global climate change is a more accurate description than global warming, as a result of climate change some areas may get cooler. The earth as a whole is warming though.
I don't have time to get into the complexities of milankovitch cycles right now, but all anyone needs to know is that these cycles exist, but they do not fully account for the warming trend that's been identified over the last century. Combining these cycles with our CO2 emissions does!!
As for thermohaline circulation pertubations, it's not a fact that there is a long term slow down, no-one knows what the exact impacts of climate change will be, the slow down of the NAD is one possibility.

Yes there is global warming because all parts of the globed are being warmed by the sun. Also the Chlorine atoms (Cl) in the ozone layer react with O2 H2 Fl2 and carbon. This one Chlorine atom can react 100,000 times before its life ends. So every bit of pollution we send up there is multiplied 100,000 times the actual quantity. Also the Ice caps are melting all over the world.
In Antarctica the ice is melting creating ic shelves which then melt in the sea creating a higher see level and a higher PH level.

as i see he has done some research and is quite right on his arguement that the global conveyor belt of weather is not slowing down or will afffect the climates ultimate radical change in temperature, in fact it will do quite the opposite, if anyone wants 12 page thesis paper i wrote on climate change and global warming it talks about this subject in depth and for those who dont know or have done any research regarding this, please stay out of this discussion
