We all hate Bin Laden NOW...the US loved him when he was 'a nice guy bringing in freedom fighters and in need of some help in defending Afghanistan from the Soviets, and in bringing democracy to the region', back in the day. Short term gain: Russia doesn't get to occupy Afghanistan and the world 'doesn't go completely communist'...Long Term problems: The terrorists and dicdatorial regimes funded/helped by the US government in their infancy grow up to hate the US and want to destroy it. Score at the end of round one: Terrorists and dicdatorial regimes: 1
US:0(because their policies failed miserably)

I'd like to personally thank the assbackwards US government policies that brought us perceived threats to our security like Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein(though he's no threat to anyone in north america, only the middle east...). Where would the world be without those policies? Perhaps in a more peaceful and harmonious place? Shit, that would suck

jib this............first of all unless your in on the US intelligence you have no clue on whether or not saddam is a threat to the US. you do say that he is a threat to the middle east....isnt that enough??? we are humanitarians...do you only care about yourself?

your initial paragraph has many falicies too. we did fund osama bin laden, but the current state was totally different. there was no al queda and they didnt use their resources in a negative means. if the US didnt give them guns then france would have and they probably did. it doesnt matter who gives them weapons. if i sold you a gun to make money and then you go and kill a classroom of kids is it my fault? i did act as an enabler, BUT so would have anybody else. they just got pissed at us because we decided to do something good about it. dont you see?

well talk about the past all you want. whether we made mistakes or not we are all faced with the present whether we like it or not. we can piss and moan all we want about how the US is the biggest terror regime in the world and all i can say to that is let your little son or daughter go visit saddam and osama. and move out of the US if it is so bad. we pick our presidents (shut the fuck up and dont even bring up the florida ballets) and we do what is best. americans are spoiled and you have no idea as to how much people in other countries suffer. i would rather let my little son visit michael jackson than saddam or his sons/brothers.

regan was one of the best things to ever hapen to this country (economically)... if it weren't for him, we'd be no where near where we are today in terms of wealth (as individuals in the country).

haha the top 5% maybe wouldn't be as wealthy as they are today. He screwed the rest of the country and sent us into 12 years of recession and a national deficit that really only took off to sky high levels when he entered office. It grew by almost a trillion dollars from 1982-1986. His $750 billion tax cut helped pave the way for a 10% unemployment rate through 1982 and 83.

i like how saddam is putting innocent people in jail for trying get out of iraq so they dont get killed. saddam is a good guy.

A few things: There was a lot more to it than just selling weapons. If you read my posts over again, you'll realize that. And again, if the US actually thought LONG TERM before making decisions like supporting terrorists like Bin Laden(he was a terrorist back then too) or regimes like Hussein's, there is a good chance that we wouldn't be faced with the problems we are faced with today. Yes, Hussein is a threat to the middle east. Guess what?! So is Palestine, and so is Israel. In fact if you took a careful look at the middle east, you'd see that it's a very volatile region that can go off without warning, and that almost every country that is part of the middle east could be the one that starts the violence. Getting rid of Saddam Hussein won't change that. Finally, no, I don't have an 'in' with US intelligence(cheap joke: US intelligence=oxymoron? couldn't help it...I know it's not true!), but what I do have is common sense and a fair bit of knowledge gained through actually researching this a bit. Here's what I know: Iraq has no conventional methods of delivery that can endanger the US. None. They haven't ever had any kind of allegiance with Al Quaeda, as Bin Laden hates Hussein for being too liberal(yeah, according to some, Hussein is liberal...). They don't support each other, so chances of having Al Quaeda terrorists using unconventional delivery methods to get at the US with iraqui weaponsm are almost nil. So is the US threatened by Iraq? Common sense says no.

BTW, where's Bin Laden these days? I guess the 'war on terror' that was supposed to catch him and bring him to justice didn't work out so well eh? Because I quite distinctly remember that Bin Laden's capture was a priority. Yet somehow, a guy hiding in caves with a kalashnikov has managed to so far elude the US military. You guys must be proud of that...
