this one's weird. it's an alkyane, but i have no idea where to start numbering:

made chlorine be at the smallest number since its the only substituent.. so you'd start counting at that carbon upper right.. or lower right which ever.. that was probably confusing...

oh, it's not a class, it's just the tail end of AP chem this year. he's barely even teaching it as it is cause there's too much to cover, so he's just giving us a super condensed version.

and based on where it started, wouldn't it be: 3,5,5-trimethyl-4-chloroheptane?

yeah once you get nomenclature down it can be fun for sure.

i'm good with molecular structures, lewis structures, stochiometry in general. everything else takes a while, but once it all falls in to place it's so gratifying.

i think 1,1,5-trimethyl-4-chloro-heptane

first find the longest continuous chain of carbon, which is 7(heptane), then draw the molecule like a straight line, that can make it easier to do the numbering

you should start numbering at the end that would give you the lowest number, ie if you had only one group, at the end of the chain put that as the 1st carbon, not the 7th or whatever number carbon
