LEAVE THEM ALONE
you dont need to mess around with them if your just hitting jumps, and if your hitting rails thel will wear down quick enough
well what i do is i tune up the edges all the way around the ski then i de tune on the spots that the rail or box will most likely hit so i can still turn but i don't catch on rails
I wouldn't bother detuning them because a few hours of park skiing will detune them just fine, and there's no point in tuning the edges on your park skis more than maybe a few times a season in my opinion. I tuned my PEs edges once in the two seasons I skied them and I live on the east coast
you can do a number of things depends on what your doin in the park many pro riders like to tune their skis like a park snowboard with a variable bevel, 1 degree at tip and tail and fluxuating to a 2 or 3 degree under foot where you'd slid rails.
or you can just pull the edges and roll them under foot like thall does. on the pipecleaner.
some even cut out there edges under foot and lay in platics so that they slide quicker
in the end everything works for each their own but as a tech my self i would typically just ride them till they're good.
The point I was trying to make was that 90% of people I've worked with are either old school racers who would shudder at the thought of dulling edges underfoot on a brand new ski, or arrogant fuckers. You seem to be the latter.
why would you spend money on that when you could either do it by actually skiing... or if you really wanna detune them find a smooth rock it'll work the same but i'd rather detune them by hittin rails, unless you're hittin wood rails catching your edges on skis is pretty avoidable
for those who say "DONT DETUNE THEM its evil.you should just wear them in after a day or two". may i ask why? it doesn twreck the skis any more to detune them. you are just speeding up the process and in the mean time eliminating the chance of catching an edge and fucking yourself up.
ive tried varying the bevel so its less sharp under foot but it doesnt make a huge difference.
it takes a minute to get a file and round the edges under foot. then they slide like butter on your first day
