in a year and a half old thread, am I the only one to find "Christians cult" funny?

Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told. Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

stop arguing over religion. The religous people on this site are going to believe what they believe and you can't change that and everyone else will think what they want. Its really hard to change peoples beliefs. but heres my two cents
I can't be totally sure that god actually cares about what we do but I believe he does and even if god doesn't care(or doesn't exist for that matter) I know that when I die I can look back on my life and say that I lived a good life not doing anything terribly wrong to hurt others or bomb buildings. I find peace and joy in God. If you don't believe thats cool because its your choice and I am not going to try to convert you and get you to come to church. If you study christianity Jesus was actually against most organized religion. He wanted people to have a human to god relationship instead of a human to church to god relationship. I really don't care if some one who doesn't believe the same stuff I do thinks I am an idiot. I am not going to change my mind because some dude is being a prick saying stuff like "jesus can blow me" on a skiing website.
God bless everyone on this site from the majority who are cool and chill all the way to the pricks.

Thats the only way you would ever convince someone of you side of the argument. Its a legit debate but like most debates the people to the far sides of the debate aren't going to be convinced of the other side. Just those people in the middle who aren't exactly sure.

First of all, I'm not Christian, I believe there's "something" but I don't believe the Christian idea of "something".

But I have a question... Why is there so much pain in this world that couldn't be created by humans? Like diseases for example, which God is so cruel that he (or she) would kill people without any reason? If God is almighty why shouldn't he ban all diseases and make Earth a happier place? I can't understand why a God would kill innocent people...

Here's the scenario: you're not the center of the universe. Nor am I. Or the entire human race combined. So why should you get to decide what is good and bad? Instead, God is the center of the universe. God decides what is good and bad. "Good" is whatever God approves, because God is omnipotent and humans aren't.

Or, rather, in a world where human beings are indeed beings endowed with free will, the possibility for evil and pain would be inherent to whatever system enabled human beings to at once be in the best place possible originally, and then have so much pain and sorrow in the end.

If human beings are to be free willed, for them to choose communion with God willingly, there must also be the possibility for evil and the rebellion against God for that choice to be anything worthwhile.

There are horrible things in this world, and this is because of the choice inherent in the system: t follow or disobey God, which are both as easily made.

The real question is where the notion that this world is in fact not the best of all possible outcomes comes from. If you're merely a byproduct of a cosmic accident, your thought process wold have no reason to enable you to think that you are in anything but the best of all possible worlds, for that would imply thinking in terms beyond the system itself.
For you to have a concept of "better" is very intriguing, and where that idea comes from is very interesting in and of itself. The Bible would say that we remember a time when we had communion with God, or that we long for it, without necessarily that being an active cognitive process... A God shaped hole.

I dont think its fair to say that bi products of cosmic reactions can ONLY think in certain thought processes. I'd like to add that we have, as a species, a serious case of optimism. Humans, when left to their own unfounded reasoning, tend to put ourselves in the center of things, somewhat selfishly. Even if i believed that life stemming from a cosmic reaction has set limitations and ways of thinking, I would still have to disagree that humans do anything but think themselves in the best of all worlds.

I believe that the world isn't perfect because heaven is supposed to be perfect and hell is supposed to suck so good days are a taste of heaven and bad days are a taste of hell. Thats just my opinion, I don't care if you think I am an idiot for believing that. Religion has many personal benefits for people. I know that it is a manipulative tool for some but thats why Jesus was actually against organized religion ironically.
