it's gotten a lot better than it was half a year ago. Dropping the searchbar reply is necessary from time to time (i.e. the thousands of summer rail threads last month, or all the big mountain vs. park threads that seem to be so popular right now).
I agree that its annoying, but it does answer lots of questions that would otherwise flood the boards.
However, people going "SEARCHBAR" on any topic is stupid. Sometimes people want to know updates or current takes on the specific topic. Yeah, lots of topics have been brought up in the past, but if we all used the searchbar, we'd just have these old stale threads floating around. NS.com needs threads like this to keep its community and alive and active. While the searchbar is a great research tool, which people do need to use, new topics shouldnt be shot down immediatly with someone shouting "Searchbar noobz".
I think I might be playing for both teams with that statement, but that best enbodies my thoughts.
Ah, I meant 'new' topics, as in any topic that has just been posted, not nessecerily about a new idea or story. I just think that its good to bring some old topics up. Take the chads gap stuff. Its a hot topic usually, with lots of posts. If a person posts something, its probably already been discussed in the past, and yeah, they could find and resurrect an old thread. But do we really want that? Having huge old threads hanging around made 3 years ago? I dont. Besides, making new threads reinspires interest in the topic, while resurrecting an old one hardly does that, if at all. People are just naturally interested in fresher threads, and thats that.
But yeah, keep it fresh, but in moderation. It is really easy to see how there could be just a flood of threads going by this logic. I guess all things in moderation? Little less "SEARCHBAR!!!"-ing?
you're going to have to be more specific. Do it hate more when people simply say "Search Bar" or when they say "STFU N00b, use the fuckin SEARCH BAR!!!!"
use the search bar.
it doesnt matter if the thread is old, you're just a post whore if you just start a new thread about a topic that has been answered already.
all of you are saying how people who make new threads are just post whores, but, in reality, you guys saying the same thing as the person before you and the person before them and so on for 20 fucking people is ok? Seems kinda messed up to me. If the first person made the point, then why do it again and again, unless of course, you yourself are a post whore. NS Logic is wonderfull
when some people make threads, they dont put the topic in the name of the thread. Say the name of the thread is "wicked awesome stuff", i mean, i would be compelled to click it, but if i were searching for whatever is inside on the searchbar, unless i knew the exact thread name, the searchbar give no help.
the searchbar should definatley show more then jus t50 results, cause if somethings hot right now, and they're are more then 1000 threads about it, and you replied to the 999 thread, and you want to see where the conversation is going, you cant cause you can only see 50, you know?
maybe some people just want the most current opinion on the thought. plus when you type searchbar you are giving the thread attention and not letting it die.
