Now is the time for you to take an active role in keeping NS alive. Many of you who have joined in recent months aren't aware that the vast majority of all the work done to keep this site running is done by one man, Matt Harvey. He's put his future on the line to keep this website up, and although it's been a huge success in the ski world, that success has not been duplicated financially.

Newschoolers.com relies on its members to stay alive; and NS is in danger of dying if we don't help out. Can you imagine the costs involved in paying for the server for a site that gets over 700,000 hits a month? How about paying for your own clothing line... or paying for the insurance for competitions that you put on.

Mind you, we're not talking about making a PROFIT here... we're talking about Matt and Newschoolers.com pulling even. I'm asking you to help out one man who has created a great thing, and has given it to us for free.

where do you think the money for thinks like prizes, events, stickers, banners and all the cost associated with running such a huge site like this come from. Profit on hoodies doesnt bring in very much at all.
I am sure a few of you can suck it up and send in a few bucks to help out the site. Look at how much you get out of it.

Just to clear a couple things up... the new banner thing isn't working out too well.. we made $1 yesterday.

We make enough from the hoodies to order another batch of hoodies... please don't think we're raking in the cash and then laughing in your face.

If each member donated $10, we could run the site for another year or two without a problem.

well if i win TAK's sig competition i will donate 10 bucks to the cause as long as i can be assured by harvey that kami doesnt get his filthy poopy hands on it cause he is a cock munger, but i love harvey for the gift he has given us and i love the newschooler community. being a realist i can tell you that not everyone...or i can even say not a lot of people will donate the cash. so something else needs to be arranged. my site doesnt get half the hits NS does, but i do have banners and it does easily pay for itself. there has to be something that we can do. i know adds and banners suck, but i think i would be willing to take that as an alternative to no NS at all.

Don't worry SU, I live about a thousand miles away from Harvey, and no money will be coming through my poopy hands. Better a cock monger than a war-monger, anyway.

Donation, of course, isn't going to keep NS going forever... but it has always helped out in times when it was needed. When Matt first asked us to donate, we got enough money to pay him back for server costs and help him buy the new dedicated server.

I thought a lot of skiing companies would want to advertise on NS.com, especially since it does get 700,000 hits a day from skier from all around the world!

That would help, wouldn't it? More advertising...?

Not pop-ups, of course. But banners, etc...

NS has to get outside advertising because the ski world(freeride/newschool/etc) isn't nearly as big or as full of money as you think it is.
There was a Jason Levinthal interview on NS a while back that you should read...
Basically, here's how it is(resumed from the interview): something like 90% of skiers in ski mag pics are skiing twintips, but approximately 2%(yes, TWO PERCENT) of yearly ski sales are twins. The rest are other skis. Most ski companies put little money into their 'freeride/newschool' ski lines, because that's not where the money is. Racing devours a huge part of ski companies' R&D budgets, advertising budgets, and sponsorship budgets. Advertising on NS isn't what I'd call expensive(especially considering the amount of hits it gets) but it doesn't make sense for most ski companies(LINE, Armada and 4Front are possible exceptions) to advertise here, because we compose approximately 2% of their market. Basically, their money is (to them)more effectively spent elsewhere, because that's where 98% of their market lies. Companies don't care about supporting what we do(there are exceptions to the rule, you know who they are), they care about their bottom line. There's a lot more to it, but that sums it up pretty well.

Thanks for all the support guys. We really appreciate. Like Jib_this said, companies just don't seem to find NS a good place to spend a tiny bit of their money. I think that's a mistake for one main reason: the future. This site and the people on it comprise of the future of the skiing buying public. When all the baby boomers stop skiing the industry is going to get smaller and whats left will be the newschool kids, and some racers (yes people still race I'm told).
We've tried to get many companies on board but those that have the money don't seem to care about NS, and the ones that do care don't seem to have the cash.
We will keep this site going as long as possible but you guys make it possible too. We appreciate all of the support and donations we get. Seeing a thread like this just reaffirms that all the hard work is worth it.

The last donation drive let us buy the server taht we're on now. It was amazing to see people give their hard earned money to keep the site going. Being 100% serious, if it weren't for the donations at that time, there would be no NS.

Now we're facing the same sort of problem. I'm going to have to take the videos offline in a couple of days because we just have the money to get another server. That's why we need your help.

It's definitely a short-term solution, but every bit helps. If everyone donated $5-$10, we could step things up for sure. I really don't want to sell my car.
