after reading several threads, tons of people use the term big mtn. What is big mtn? is it just anything that is not park skiing? does it have to be powder and steeps with cliffs? does it have to be backsountry? so what really is big mtn? and what is the difference between big mtn and all mtn?
big mountain must be off piste. I think of it as either very steep and/or gnarly terrain or very fast open terrain. cliffs etc are by no means necessary to justify the term big mtn.
all mtn is the same but includes piste.
in this light, an all mtn twin is the karma or chronic wide, but the ANT pro, Prophet 130 are big mountain twins. then theres big mountain freestyle like sumo, sir francis bacon.
yea, so many people throw around these terms and i wonder if they really know what there talking about, i guess its just differnet in everybodys opinion.
In my opinion i think of big mtn as 1. off piste 2.very natural terrain, so your skiing the actual mtn naturally, not smoothed and cut trails 3. there has to be a certain level of difficulty to the skiing.4.uhhh, what else is there?
big mountain is purty much difficult AKA steep, AKA BC skiing, which as said before is off-piste. BC booters are not big mountain. cliffs are. powder is a big-mountain term that can't be used on a piste trail or in the park.
