im gonna say utah has the best pow, but ive only skied in the east and in utah and colorado, but beleive it or not i had an amazing pow day in nc last season, it was pretty cold(15 degrees) and low humidity and it snowed 20 inches and it was really nice light snow.
the best powder comes from the rockies. it is by far the driest and best but it only comes once in a blue moon. over all i would say it does go to the kootneys and montana because it falls more often but you cant beat skiing knee deep pow 3 weeks after the last storm
scary part is... there was actually a 1.5 / 2 foot day out here this year.. it was mysteriously gone by the next day tho, i think they purposely scraped it bare
Tahoe actually doesn't get the most snow. Alta and Snowbird get more snow and it's way drier. But as stated before Japan gets the most snow in the world, on average. Oh yeah and Baker but that snow is super wet.
Utah has some of the lightest fluffiest stuff in the world. Yeah Japan, Alaska, Whistler and Tahoe all get lots of snow, but it is in a maritime weather pattern where the snow is heavy and just not as fluffy pow pow as Utah. Steamboat is supposed to be pretty damn fluffy too.
best pow is utah hands down. now pow is definitely different than big mtn. because jackson hole and alaska are the places for big mtn. but i've skiied the sierras, the chugach, the tetons, the wasatch, and the rockies this year and utah's pow is ... bodacious... yes i said it.
I skied utah, whistler and qc....utah owns it all by far...I went 2 times...and both times it snowed more in 10 days than an entire year at my place on the eastcoast
