I was wondering if this would be a good big mountain ski for next year if im guna b like 5 foot 9 155 lbs. I might seem small, but i can ski 180s easily and i like to go real fast and was wondering if anyone has skied this ski and is it stiff and how it skis..Thanks...and if anyone would have any toher suggestions for skis for me for big mountain pow/ please suggest...thank you
its not like i have skied every big mtn ski...but i would recomend that you buy big mnt skis from a bigger company, instead of a core company. stuff like K2, Atomic, Rossignol. if you buy from bigger companies i think they have more money to do research, while some core companies are still trying to make a profit. who knows though. message benditto, he bought them.
no. just no.
you want stiffer skis for big mountain so that you can ride in everything.
I'm not sure what's around 100 underfoot and stiff, but I'll research it. Not too many twins are stiff. If you're looking for a REAL big mounain ski, try the BRO's or something like that.
yeah I guess
I still prefer stiffer skis for everything cuz its a good workout overall and if you're strong they work out better than soft. Stiff still goes through fluffy stuff better.
soft is so-so for BC freestyle and stuff (but still hella fun) depending on what youre style is.
wrong. big mountain and fast, you want stiff. you dont want your tips and your whole ski to be flexing and wiggiling like a noodle while going 40 down a steep slope.
it's the basic concept of intertia.
When the soft ski presses against the powder, it bends and flexes more, therefore causing more of a chance of catching a tip or hooking an edge. It also doesn't allow as easy a turn movement.
Stiff skis press against the snow, and don't move, and eliminate all these problems. They can generate more power for air, too.
when a soft ski hits moguls, it flexes easier and allows the person to turn super quickly. Keep in mind that this is not in powder, it's hard-packed snow.
it also gives you more margin for error in a landing from a jump.
i'm riding the ninthward 187 and they are great all around. fatty ski dimensions 129-109-129 that perfom well everyhwere. they are even fun in the park. the construction on the 187 is bomber.. the core is really lively and not too soft. the sidewalls are burly as hell. nice and thick and way over the edges which are thick aswell. also the edges are continuous, no gaps in the edge around the tips or tail. these things are sweeet. i ride them a cm back from center and i love them. super fun in all conditions. They are awesome in crud and especially in deep powder. these things made it easy for me to make carves switch in pow and they make stomping some pow landings easy.
this ski has won me over as an all condition wonder
you cant hate on ninthward, their skis construction is bombproof and they are fun as hell.
i've straight lined the face of the professor at arapahoe basin on these skis without a problem. they werent chattering any and i felt in total control. i love these skis.
The 187s are impossible to find, Bendito, where did you get yours? Up in MT not one store carries or demos ninthwards. Josh at Jibij also seemed to have a limited amount, what is up with that? Were they limited production?
Is that OGSlope being a dick? never gets old for you does it?
I was on Jp's and im your size and weight, my thing was yeah i can smoke everyone on them on steep faces and whatnot but 188 is a shitload of ski to move around when you feel like getting in the tight spots and goating. Im going back down to a 179 Made'N AK next year because of the lenght issue . If you ski huge deep lines at a constant 70 mph then there a good ski for somone our size, and there sicktor for spins and shit int he BC but other than that there alot of ski length wise, i imagine the 187 will be the same .
