When do skis start becoming to wide. With skis like the Prophet and the Pontoons being extremely wide and made for powder, they might start taking the challenge out of skiing powder. When does a wide ski start taking the challenge out of skiing powder?
the whole idea behind the elizabeths and prophets was to allow pollard and other really good skiers to do stuff that they couldn't do on "normal" fat skis. for the average person, they just make powder more fun. i see what you are saying but i don't think it is a problem
The wider waist found on powder skis is there to make it more fun to ride powder. More surface area enables you to float more, which is a lot more enjoyable than sinking like a rock. Consequentaly, powder becomes easier to ski in once you have skis with a wider waist. If you're looking for a challenge go no further than mogul skis in soft snow.
skis start get fat around 95-100 mm underfoot. But the really fat ones I wanna try in some deep AK pow are the 140 something underfoot from one of the customs, probably kingswood
I imagine the gnarly lines that the people this skis are made for ski are fuckin hard on any skis, just more fun on fatties. And skis like the elizabeths are fat for good reason, so people can start bringin more park style skiing into the pow. I also see your point though, I couldn't imagine a mere mortal like myself ever needing a 174mm tip or even a prophet 130.
