Intrawest buys fernie alpine resort?

So this is all in the rumor mill, but apparently intrawest has purchased fernie's resort. There are a few facts to back up the possiblity:
1. When the original owner, heiko sosher, sold the resort intrawest was the highest bidder. Not wanting fernie to become like whistler, he sold to RCR for less.
2. This past winter, a coworker of mine at kootenay taxi drove around an intrawest employee so he could check out the town for a possible purchase of the resort.
3. In april, fernie's terrain park suddenly became a 'telus terrain park', similar to that of big white's terrain park after intrawest's aquisition.
So fernie alpine resort may have been purchased by intrawest. I hope the rumors aren't true. Even though RCR is crap, at least the small town local charm is still here.

yah, unless you know how intrawest operates and know fernie...you won't see the significance of this purchase.
and no, it would likely be bad in the end.

oh no, i hope it's not true. Intrawest are a bunch of cocks. but RCR is far worse. I was laughing at the Big Air when they were saying that the park is sponsored by telus. We never saw any of that cash. Fuckers!!

The park in fernie was dope though especially for the resort. i couldn't pass an opinion on rcr or intarwest but aslong as they dont fuck fereni up i'll be back all next season again.

basically what intrawest does is buys a resort, pumps a shitload of money into it to make it one of the best (high speed lifts, terrain parks, shops, and facilities) which sounds great at first. But, after they've developed a few hundred million in real estate (where ski resorts make their money) and sold it all, they slow the expansion down and you end up with a place like whistler, too many people, overpriced shops, high rent, and the best pow spots are raped after the first run.
Right now fernie has sick terrain, is uncrowded, rent is affordable and even a ski bum can buy a house. Intrawest is likely to change that. What the guy in the taxi said was within 5 years of intrawest owning the resort, they could push the price of a $200,000 house up to $500,000 or more.

DAm that sucsk i lived in Fernie for 3 seasons that place is fukin sick.. No girls though haha but on a pow day there are few skiresorts on earth that are as good for deepdeep pow and tree skiing.
but on the positve side maybe thaty will open all the terrain on the Back side of pollar Peak?? that could be dope. But overall its not good for the town and skiresort.

big white is not owned by intrawest. Intrawest terrain parks are Nintendo, thats why panorama suddenly got a big Nintendo park in the last few years.
Maybe the same aussies that bought BW and silverstar bought fernie as well

Intrawest Ruined my life, when I volunteered at Winter Park, we used to get three free tickets a day. Then Intrawest bought em out and we get 1/2 a ticket.

the telus terrain park isnt an intrawest thing cause louise has that too and intrawest probbably wouldnt buy them because theres no real estate options at louise.

No offense but a top executive in charge of purchasing F.A.R. isn't going to roll around in Kootenay Taxi's 1988 Ford Aerostar van. Sounds like a weak rumour.

kimberley also had a telus park this year, and rcr still owns it. rcr is a bunch of fuckbags though, intrawest is way better. for kimberley anyways... theres no powder here, may as well have high speed lifts and a dope park.

that's odd, everyone over here seems to think that intrawest bought out big white and silver star.
There's a bunch of reasons too, why RCR wouldn't sell fernie. They know that fernie is a diamond mine, they're just waiting for the right time to develop it. The developement map that i've seen included a chairlift up polar peak, opening the lizard headwall, a lift out polaris bowl (back of polar peak) and possibly a lift into an out of mongolia bowl.

1. When the original owner, heiko sosher, sold the resort intrawest was the highest bidder. Not wanting fernie to become like whistler, he sold to RCR for less.
Not sure about this wasn't in the know then.
2. This past winter, a coworker of mine at kootenay taxi drove around an intrawest employee so he could check out the town for a possible purchase of the resort.
Why would an Intrawest exec (they wouldn't send some peon out it would be a VP from business acquisitions) blab about this to a taxi driver? On a transaction that hasn't happened which could fuck up their stock price. Not happening.
3. In april, fernie's terrain park suddenly became a 'telus terrain park', similar to that of big white's terrain park after intrawest's aquisition.
Wrong as said above, RCR has Telus.
Intrawest wouldn't want Fernie, it's already developed out at the base, and there isn't enough demand since its 3 hours from Calgary airport and farther than Banff/LL. Plus no Lake/golf in the summer, useless as a resort property.
