Question for you amature DJ's

I've been curious about just doing some mixing and stuff as a hobby. I need some ideas for good mixing/DJ programs that will be fairly easy to use.
Also is there a way to separate vocals and the backtrack from songs? Like I know a lot of DJs put together mixes with different backtracks. Or do you get the backtracks separately?
I might be using wrong terms too. So if you can help, and need me to clarify what I'm talking about just let me know. Thanks.

start off by making beats with software like reason or fruity loops.

If you're just wanting to do a basic stuff like beatmatching between songs etc then there are quite a few options on the net. You probably want to get something that is able to output to dual soundcards.. cause even though you can use the crossfader on the programme its generally a bitch to use. So invest in a mixer and you can then get perfect cuts between tracks while cueing your next track over headphones. It just makes it so much easier and gives you more control (along with looking more impressive when you're mixing for your mates!) I've got a Behringer DJX400 mixer - its pretty mint, got BPM counters for each channel etc. It also has the advantage of being pretty cheap *got mine $200 NZ).
