I'm not sure why it's so cheap, he says it has never been in a wreck. I don't really like all the work he has done, but I guess i can always downgrade.
you dont want to buy a car like that for cheap. its probly been abused and on the point of dieing. there is a reason he is selling it for cheap. and if you dont even know what the sti is, its probly too much car for you.
a Sti is "better" in someway, but you could probably find a WRX for cheaper, then do some work on it yourself, and since you are younger, the insurance will be much much less, because a STi is considered a sports car, where a normal WRX is actually insured under a sedan. So yeah I would take that route, plus a wrx is still pretty dang fast
I would recomend getting a month subscription to www.carfax.com and find out the VIN for the STi and run it through their site, it will give you a lot of helpful info and probably tell you that it has been involved in an accident....
the sti gussles gas like crazy and i know my friend pays about 5500 a year for insurance on his so if u've got the money for that then go for it. if not i would say stay away, although it is a sweet car.
they are quick cars but i would highly warn you against buying a used one. i know a guy who blew 3 engines on his from turning up the boost on his relatively stock engines and ended up selling it to carmax(who probably sold it to some poor guy). cars like that are not usually babied so id be careful in buying one that isnt new.
well I just read a big article on it that it is not thats why I brought it up. The STI is high, but the WRX isn't listed under a sports car. It is alot less then a Corvette thats for sure. I think its like 1400 for me and I am 18 with 2 speeding tickets and a totalled car.
wtf? then dont comment about my car on the other thread
An sti is a very upgraded version of the WRX, which is inturn an upgrade to the impreza. the WRX sti has 300 lbs of torque, 300 horsepower coming out of a 2.5 liter turbo engine. AWD, making it impossible to beat off the line (maybe an evo). Yes, it is a high end car, and for people who like cars, especially nice, fast ones, know that the sti is a very envied car by most. i recommend getting it, although its ovbiously modded and painted, but who cares. i personally like to get my cars bone stock.
How cheap is cheap? With a car that looks like that, as Mammothpunks said, it's probably been abused. A lot of people like to drive their WRXs/STis into the ground, so thats probably the case. I would stay clear of something that has tons of mods. And the paint job is hidious, but that's just my opinion.
And don't take the guys word for it that it hasn't been in an accident, make sure you check with the insurance companies on that one, and make sure there isn't a lein on the car as well.
i would defintley go check that car out before you buy it, because chances are the owner beat the shit out of it. oh and by the way, that thing is hideous.
1.) if its cheapits either dead/dying/beat on and about to tatke a shit
OR
The person has 'modded' it up and put STI badges on it, get more pics of the interior and engine baym, then i could tell you if its a sti or not
2.) STI are quick, but tyhey only shine if you know how to dirve them, when magazines and testers tested the sti and got the 4.5ish 0-60 time they were dumpiong the clutch at about 5000rpms, that my frinds is not good for any car, easpically an awd drive one.
If you are looking to race id either a get a wrx and do dsome level 3 mods and cost less tahna wrx, have a little sleepre affect, and save money, along with haveing the satifaction of knowing that yiour car is fast b/c your made it fast.
TYouir insurance compaines must hate all of you guys, there was a $500 a year difference between the WRXs brothers when i was looking at them about 6 months ago.
^ dont do that. look into the carfax reports, and also who the seller is is a big part of what you are getting. if he is older and seems trustworthy, you might be better off, but like a lot of people have said, these cars are used for racing, and when one is modded out especially, chances are that it has been burnt out and the tranny or clutch is gone. are there any engine bay pics? do you know of any performance mods? find those out, post them, and well give you some more feedback
It's just going to be an everyday driver, and it would be under my parents name. I'm just trying to convince them it would be a practical car, since they'd be driving it alot.
Good luck trying to convince your parents a car that looks like that is practical. My WRX wagon is only borderline practical, that thing is nothing close.
alot of garage's will do a pre-purchase inspection of the car for like 50 bucks, take it to a shop and get it checked out and if they give you the go ahead then get it, but as they said if you have to ask what it is, then it's definately way to much car for you
Id get an STi soon beacuase the newer models that are scheduled to come out are gunna be freakin ugly as hell... no more sedans, only hatchbacks. this is the concept of what it will be like http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/04/27/follwoup-impreza-revamp-less-drastic-than-thought/ and if you like the STi.. id suggest looking into an EVO IX sick car as well
Get a 04' STI the 05's had a bunch of manufacturing problems. If u plan to modify this car then dont even bother upgrading piece by piece, just get a membership to NASIOC or the WRX CLUB on the internet and buy an EJ25 or a EJ257 shortblock that has already been modified it will save u a ton of money and u can still use everything else from your stock EJ25 and just work on getting your heads ported and some moderate stage 2 cams, but be sure u by a computer tuning kit first and u will need an entirely new turbo kit to assist the upgrades and then u will have to get it tuned. But u must be 100% sure and committed to have one of these cars because they r very high maintenance alot of problems can occur with these cars if u know nothing about them.Plus u will have to upgrade the suspension to a good set of full coilovers sway bars i suggest JIC or Cusco. But yeah this is just a hint of all of the shit that entails having this car....but whatever u do dont buy a 9k STI its gotta be fucked man!
9k SHIPPED? sounds like a scam to me. ask the guy if you can come take a look at it and give it a test drive. if he says hes out of the country or the car is out of the country or some shit but hell ship it for free dont get it. lots of scams work that way where the guy wants you to send him the money and hell send you the car. never ever buy a car without being able to check it out in real life.
