Was anyone else besides me annoyed with big sky's park this year? It seemed like there were less features than last year. The park was rarely groomed or changed. There were no new rails at all. The most challenging rail in that park is the fdf that they flip the other way around to make a makeshit dfd, which is still really easy. The big booter was fun sometimes, when you could get enough speed, but the landing was still not steep enough, and landing on that thing hurt every time. I really hope big sky puts some serious thought into their terrain park for next year. I went up there on a friday this year and both parks were closed off all day. The groomer STARTED grooming at like 1:30.
Yeah they were gay. Some creative stuff, but it seems like they only did little shit in the small park. Why couldn't they have built that step up step down jump wayyy bigger in the big park. All their jumps were different in a weird way. they suck
It was pretty good when I was there in October. They had a good down rail and step up box type thing at the bottom of Mr. K. Both were set up pretty nicely.
Sorry to here the rest of the season didn't turn out well.
Yeah, after seeing what they had at the beginning of the season, i thought it was gonna be a super sick year for BS. But i think they just got really lazy. Maintenced like once a week, never groomed, maybe once a week. And their jumps sucked. It seemed like all the beginner stuff was good tho, i wonder why? Oh, because everyone on the park crew are shitty as snowboarders who can do anything. If they cant do a feature (55ft jump) they just dont give a shit about it, but of course 3 jumps in a row in the mini park (each like 5 ft) were constantly maintences.
My solution to this is a new park crew, guys who will actualy set up good shit, and set it up good and maintence every day!!! fuckkkkk
I feel ya, beside being america's ateepest terrain park, and the worst planned Big SKy can be cool. The hits sucked this year, the smaller park was almost better some days due to speed problems. After spending over $150,000 grand last year on equipment they came up with that?
Everyone has been telling them to move it to southern comfort, its the PERFECT spot for a park, and it would have its own highspeed quad, and it would be gapper free over there too.
maybe, but look at Brighton, well I have limited experience but it seems alot like big sky. Another shocker i heard was that a tower on the tram needs to be moved/fixed and may affect the tram. Anybody heard this?
...and the new Zuagg was really sweet, wow, made the pipe so much better.
southern comfort.. the one goin off the back?? i always get mixed up. but if that is it then they could get some good stuff in there its really long. adn theres drop offs every once adn a while, which would be really nice.
Southern comfort is such a good idea. I would have never thought of that. Think of the nice warm march days on a southfacing slope with a highspeed quad accessing a slushy, mellow park. Ahhhhh....
I dunno about Brighton, but that is how big sky is. Like Evan said, they need a park crew that is acctually GOOD. Because the park crew this year sucked, and there was only one skier, hence most things were set up more snowboarder oriented.
Yeah, his name is issac, hes super chill, but im guessing he really didnt get to do much he wanted to do because it was his first year, and didnt get to set things up for skiers ect because its like 5 other boarders decison over his 1 skier decison, we just need more skiers on park crew.
Soco would be sweet, but here are a few things as I understand it, that would make it hard to move the park over there.
Spanish Peaks owns most of Andesite now and put a lot of money into the new lift for thier guests to have quick access to Big Sky. They have big real estate plans and probably would not like Big Sky doing dirt work for a park under Soco.
Also no snowmaking exist over there. You need snowmaking to build the big features you like. Running snowmaking lines over there would be a huge thing.
Another thing is that if someone gets injured on Soco, patrol can't just ski them down to the base. They usually have to get a snowmobile assist to the top than ski the person down which complicates things. El Dorado is a sick park trail, theres just some obsticales preventing it from happening.
Damn I didn't think about any of that shit. Well, big sky should at least take all of ambush rather than just the left side, no one takes that icy ass run anyways. If they can't move locations, the least they can do is make the features decent.
