you can't really repair the bases. the base is sooo damn fast. i wouldn't touch a rail if i had those skis. i couldn't believe how much faster they are than the ar6.
So I've been searching around... but couldn't find much... what's the difference between the Pipe Cleaners and the AR6s? Thinner bases? Stiffer flex pattern? Skinnier footprint? Less sidecut?
ok the ar6 has a stiffer tail so that you can get more pop off the lips or jumps and the pipe lip, they have the same base material as all there other skis so i dont know what you the guy was talking about when he sayed there diff.
i ordered a pair of them from the shop i work and and i cant waight to get em
"The new "improved" Armada for 2006-2007.This ski is truly the ski that the pros have been skiing on for the last couple of years.
The Pipe Cleaner is the AR6 on steriods.
Price too low to list on the internet."
The ski everyones been riding in the pipe, see. So when people were asking about T-hall and Ar5 topsheets versus promodels and such, I think this will end that. So many companies do that type of stuff, com'on it's no secret.
Sorry if I sound like an idiot... but what exactly constitutes a faster base? I know the pipe cleaners' base is thinner... but what exactly is the difference in the way it glides across the snow?
technically yes, but there is no way that anyone could notice the fraction of a milimeter difference between the two edges. the ar6 and the pipe cleaner are the same ski... minus base and apparently the edge.
Actualy you can feel the difference. Between edge thicknesses. A few years ago rossi produced 9x's with a thick edge, and 9xs with a thin edge. Same ski, just thinner edge on one set of skis. When you rode them you could feel the difference and see the difference in timings.
This isn't a thread about skiing all mountain. The question this guy asked was about slopestyle and whether there would be anything wrong with getting the Pipe Cleaners for that.
So maybe in your rave reveiw of your first time on a decent p-tex base you should have included the other actual main differences between the 2 skis in question.
Don't get the Pipe Cleaners for slopestyle, the AR6 is cheaper and better for it. The PC is just Armadas way of pointing out that an ideal pipe ski is not an everyday ski, just like an ideal mogul ski sucks everywhere else.
And if you compete halfpipe don't think whoever bought the PC is just going to automatically beat you. Lot's of brands use high end bases on their high end park ski. Think about the best park ski ever that gets the most shit on this site for its thin edges... The Trouble Maker. The PC is a wider TM.
definitely wasn't my first time skiing decent p-tex. salomon did the same thing last season with the cr and candide pro models. those were sweet for slopestyle and everything else. i'm sorry if you disagree with my opinion that the pipe cleaner is a superior ski to the ar6. i agree that the ar6 is certainly going to be more durable, but the pipe cleaner will perform better, no question. how is a faster ski going to hinder you in any way, shape or form skiing park all day?
yea I got on them at a demo day and also rode some ar6s and there isnt much difference between them they also widened the ar6 from the ar5 but I dont know if the pipecleaner is the same with, from everyone else it sounds like it is, umless your doing almost all pipe its not worth it, the ar6 will hold up better and have a longer life and its $100 less, armada is goin to make the jp in a 181 next year too which will be sick
well with the salomon lab skis which are specifically "pipe" skis, i've demoed them and they basically ski like a gs ski with a twin tip so the pipe cleaner is probably the same idea
Unless you (in general, not this thread's author) are a hardcore racer, I wouldn't expect the base to have that much of an influence. A "good" base is basically how much wax it can hold. If you even bother to wax your skis on a regular basis (more than once a week in season), you probably won't be able to realize the potential these bases hold with less than 5 coats of wax, at the bare minimum. A really good wax job on normal bases will always be faster than an unwaxed high speed base.
uh neither of you are right, different base and core. they used a lighter core for the pipe cleaner. both have the 2.5 edge, and edges do make a difference in a park ski as far as durability is concerned although I'm pretty sure you knew that already. if you guys checked out the armada sight you coulda known all this and not made yourselves look stupid.
