i'm curious about what this random association of people holds for beliefs. namely surronding death. do you believe in heaven? hell? afterlife? the end and absolute nothingness? sound off, i want to hear what everyone thinks.

I think when you die you rot in a box, get cremated, or whatever you choose before you die. After that it is absolute nothingness. The concept of an afterlife is just cheesy optimism to me.

i know you just die off, but part of me wants to beleive that in after life its just like a big void of people have died, and dogs, animals and everything, and when you decide to come back you can be reincarnated in whatever for you want

walt whitman sums up my thoughts quite well:
What do you think has become of the young and old men?
And what do you think has become of the women and children?
They are alive and well somewhere,
The smallest sprout shows there is really no death,
And if ever there was it led forward life, and does not wait at the end to arrest it,
And ceased the moment life appeared.
All goes onward and outward, nothing collapses,
And to die is different from what anyone supposed, and luckier.
-Walt Whitman from "Song of Myself"

i have no clue. maybe your memory gets erased and you become another human, as in you become someones baby. how crazy would that be. you never stop living but you never know that you had another life before.

I think when you die you recieve infinite knowledge and can watch over the universe until you choose to come back as another being.

yeah i agree with you. Its kinda sad but when you die i think you just rot in the ground. Your soul doesnt go anywhere, when your heart stops, you stop. no afterlife or anything

^I don't think so (not that you're wrong because no one can claim to actually know), but i think that your body is just a transport for your mind. The book "The Holographic Universe" goes into deep detail about this. The book talks about out of body experiences among many other phenomena. I suggest the book if your interested in this because it also talks about a lot of people who have had near death experiences. most of them claim that they actually do see a tunnel of light. Some of them say that it feels like time does not exist and they meet someone and watch almost a summary of their life and also what life would be like in the future if they do live. Then the person they are watching with asks if they want to live anymore.

ive seen a show on people like that on tv, and my theory on that is:
their "near death experience" is just their mind bugging out for a little, and as this goes on, whatever they think happens when you die happens. like your mind knows your thoughts on death and presents them to you as if it were happening, thats why there are so many differnt accounts of what happens with near death experiences. if the person was actually dieing and coming back, they would all have the same image in their head, becuse the same thing happens to all people when they die, just nobody is sure what. so the reason for there being so many different experiences is the same as this thread: everybody has their own version of what happens when you die

^^Ya, but in this book the study is done with people from all over the world. And a common thing that everybody said was a long dark tunnel with a light at the end or some other slight variation of this. So while Christians all have heard about the light at the end of the tunnel, other religions or cultures might not have this image of death. Yet, still the common vision was the tunnel.

I agree, although I'm glad I'm agnostic, just so I leave no room for argument from religious fundamentalists who want to either convert me or tell me that I'm not being as "coldly realistic" as I appear.

i dont beleive in an afterlife, i dont think anything happens at all, you just die, no soul, no nothing, just black.....not even anything to acknoledge the black or being knocked out feeling.
you just disapeer of the fucking planet for life!
thats how i feel.
but if there is an after life I hope to go in that "limbo" mode, where i can just lurk the planet and do whatever for eternity.

i agree with u on that. but overall i think that its either a endless nothing or the heaven hell theory but there is no difference. everyone goes to the same place

depends on how you died. if it was natural you go to some type of after life or absoulutely nothing happens to u.
but i like to think that for those who die of unnatural causes...they are given a manifestation of their life exactly where they left off, but it is only a pseudo-life...and they continue on in this "life" until they have succeeded or completed what they wanted to do. it is moreso an optimistic, poetic justice approach and ideal but it is one i am fairly interested in.

i definitely think something happens to your 'soul'. i am sure most of you have never seen someone who has just died. It is weird. I say my grandpa alive, then like 30 min later, i heard his heart had stopped and went into the room, and his body did not look the same. There was something missing, and it was a weird feeling, but without a doubt one could tell that there was no 'soul' left inside him. it is crazy. (much different than seeing someone in a coffin). as i am religious i believe one goes to 'heaven', but what 'heaven' is, who knows. it may as well be some time-less existance of observing the universe from an outside perspective, no one will ever be able to say.

you go to heaven if you want, or go to hell if you want. In heaven, the pow is light and the rails are long. In hell, you hafta skiblade on rocks all day.

nothing. a lack of existence more porfound than the deepest sleep. your mind, your identity, everything you thought and did in your life is gone. you go nowhere, you feel nothing, you think nothing. you will only be as real as other peoples memories of you and soon, they will die too. your person, your character and your imprints will fade away into obscurity with every passing year.
no reincarnation, no great reward.
insects and bacretria consume the hard parts of your body then your bones become fossilized eventually or turn to dust. (if you werent cremated).
sun will probably grow to a thousand times its mass (as its expected) and consume the earth entirely before collapsing in unto itself, obliterating everything you ever came to know and ever will know. no point in anything, no greater purpose.
SO GO FUCK BITCHES, YOUNG KID!!!!!!
