If the new single "Vicarious" is any indication of the album's overall vibe, I'd say it sounds more like Anema, dealing with social issues in the lyrics. Either way, I'm sure it's gonna beat all the other trash out there right now...
always thought it kind of hard to predict the overall vibe of a tool CD on one song. they seem to change up the tempo alot throughout their albums. liking what i hear so far. Tool is cool drop out of school
the cd is super fucking sick. you kiddies have no idea what tool has done to the music world. holy shit the cd is mindblowing, from start to finish. i can't stop listening to it and lucky for me i spend 10 hours a day in my car for work.
30 fuck that it was in four minutes, got 1 tried to go back for a second, no go that was at 10:04 am. the worst part is you look on e-bay and all these scalp companies have the tickets on line for like 300 each. companies like whereyousittenat.com and pickyourseats.com it is fucking bullshit.
vicarious sounds nothing like schism. the lyrics are completely different. vicarious is a 5/8 time signature where as schism is either 6/8 or 7/8, and you must be smoking some good shit, and also not be a very big tool fan
^it's 6/8 (or 3/4 however you want to look at it). the grudge and the patient are both 5/8 (or 5/4) though. and ticks&leeches is in alternating 7/8 and 8/8 *drool*
and i'm still trying to figure out some of the time signatures on the new one, there's only like one or two tracks that are in normal 4/4.
i finaaly heard the whole album last night. tool is my favorite band but this album compared to their othwers is a little lacking of substance. i love the songs on it but haw many trippy moody instrumentals do we need i mean didnt they do enough of that on lateralis. dont get me wrong i think the pot is the shit i just wish there was a little more to the album, i mean a complete album like aenima was. well i still cant wait for the show if anybody has any extra tickets for philly or either NY show ii am interested
no not really of the 11 tracks there is like 6 songs, now i think the songs are great but i could do without the 30minute of instrumental interludes. as well as i though this was touted as an angry album but i just didnt feel that. I could be wrong and the album may need to grow on me a little, but again that is the problem i have never had to let a tool album grow on me before.
i just feel that this album is not one of their better works. i will say this though evan a bad tool album is better then mosts best album. and i am not saying i dont like the album, i do just that when compared to prevouis albums it is not as good( then again thier other albums did set the bar kind of high.
my rankings would be
1 aenima
2 opiate
3 lateralus
4 underetow
5 10,000 days
6 all other bands
(i dont include salival cause i dont consider it a true album as such with it only having one previously unreleased track on it.)
so yes i think this is tool worst album to date but that dosent mean i dont like it i just think it fell short of ther previous works.
i see your point. you're probably one of the guys in the mosh pit at a tool show. i'm the guy standing in the corner with my eyes closed. from a headbanger standpoint no it doesn't rock out as hard as the top two on your list but from a musical creativity standpoint it surpasses all their previous works (and in my opinion any other musical work ever produced). and even i'm still slammin shit around for tracks like jambi and the pot.
if you listen to their albums in chronological order you can see how their musical creativity grows exponentionally with each album. i thought they had reached the peak with lateralus but 10,000 days blew it away. after listening to this cd 20+ times i really can't believe that human minds can come up with the shit tool comes up with.
listen to the whole thing on a really nice pair of headphones or studio monitors and you'll see.
on a side note, i hope they do another cd like salival was, because when they redo tracks live like third eye it's so fucking sick. the one colorado show i missed my friend told me they did a 15 minute long version of opiate, and triad live is even better than the studio version.
