alright so i just finished watching Donnie Darko for the first time and i dont get it at all. I got the connection that the bunnies are not acting like people, but people are acting like bunnies. But i dont get when in the end frank is just a person.
^ya watch it again.
it's a great flick.
try to really think outside the box...try to connect the whole circle and see how his actions had an effect on the ppl closest to him..i.e. jena malone
my friend had like an emotional breakdown after seeing that movie. he freaked out, went silent, walked outside by himslef and just sat there by himslef for a while and refused to talk to anyone. fucking wierd.
false, he died in the end because of self sacrifice.
donnie killing frank had nothing to do with donnies death. his death was voluntary, to save the life of gretchen and his mother and sister, the reputation of jim cunningham, and the job of the teacher(drew barrymore, i forgot her name i the film.)
he killed frank because frank killed gretchen, and at that moment, donnie realized that if she had not know him, she would not have died. he then entered the rip in space time to go back to the moment in time which he was destined to be killed, and allowed it to happen. thus saving everyone else.
bingo darlin...that is what i was getting at earlier but i didnt wanna say it because he hadnt figured it out and i wanted him to watch it again and discover this himself..but now you effed it up so i'll just say JEA!! and you are right on the button.
yea, well, it takes a lot of people a lot of time to figure out. which is not to say that it wasn't the same for me, but i had to spoil it.
plus, once you figure it out, then watch it again, everything makes so much more sense.
^ i got it the first time i watched it. but i watch 4 or 5 movies a day as I have to write reviews on films so if i dont catch onto shit immediately i am in trouble haha.
really? damn. than you have to be a good film student. i get caught up way too much in other details of the film, i don't hold on to much of the complex story lines
^yeah but sometimes u gotta let go do exactly that...which i have a hard time doing now because i've been so well trained to analyze everything. it has slightly soured films for me but at the same time sweetened them.
p.s. i love the msg donnie darko sends. it is dark, yes, but it is also real. there are many things we do on a daily basis that cause a chain reaction of events and consequences that sometimes we don't even know about. Donnie was lucky enough to be shown the consequences of his actions and could therefore make a logical decision at the end of the film.
yeah donnie darko is a good movie, i liked trying to puzzzle the movie together to figure out what was going on, but thats cuz i missed the beginning, but i figured it out.
i need to watch it a second time sometime soon.
at the begining of the movie, a tangent universe spun off the primary universe and was going to collapse in 28 days and destroy both universes
at the end of the movie Donnie's actions result in the death of gretchen and his mother and sister, the tangent universe starts to collapse, the wormhole between the two universes sucks in a jet engine from the collapsing universe and sends it to the primary universe, where donnie is seen laughing in his bed, because he expericed the tangent universe he knows that he must die from the jet engine to stop the wormhole to everyone who he saw die in the tangent universe save the world.
VERY COMPLICATED, i know it seems like im talking out my ass here but ive actually done some hard thinking and research
