i'd recommend doing corks then. With corks you can start off with much less commitment issues, and better chance of landing on your feet.
A good way to start off corks (assuming you spin left) is to go off a jump that your comfortable on. Go straight into the jump (another issue, you can either carve into the jump on corks, or go staright, go staright at fisrt, just less shit to think about) pop off the lip like normal. When you pop for a good cork your going to drop your left shoulder and spin under it, not over, if you spin over your shoulder your going to go inverted, and this would be a d-spin. A good way to practice this is to go off the jump, take your right hand and sort of reach for the sky, while taking your left hand and reach for your ski right under your left ski. This will allow you to get a little off axis, so that you don't freak out. After you get comfy with this, try taking it more and more corked... they are way addictive, SO MUCH FUN!
a flat spin is thrown similar to a lincoln loop, and rodeo. It starts off with your right shoulder droping down while your skis come up and over your left shoulder, but not invetred.
