How do you know when you need a new helmet after a crash? i slammed my head hard with my giro mx 9 and i didnt get my concussion but it was a pretty strong hit to the ground after a botched jump. i know the manual says after every crash, cuz of unnoticeable damages. is that really true or is it a marketing ploy?
replace it period, how much is your brain worth to you 100$? didn't think so, have a nice day. Just the fact that you're wondering is the need to the replace.
well it may say to replace after ever crash. but that would mean most people have to get a new helmet like once a week. just get a new helmet every once in a while unless you totally demolish it
anybody ever try the Giro helmet replacement program. i recall sending in some warranty form when i bought the helmet. if anyone knows how to do this, please let me know. thanks
How about dropping them? Mine has rolled out of the car or fallen off my arm a few times and smacked concrete. Is the weight of the helmet alone enough to do some damage?
^ Dropping them... I don't think that'd do much damage but I could be wrong. I can't afford to buy new helmets whenever I take a good hit but my Giro has lasted through some pretty good ones and is still going strong.
dropping it wont hurt it. But any semi-serious crash should be cause to replace it. Any slight crack in the foam completely sacrifices the integrity of the helmet. buy a new one
Even if the foam is alittle compressed, it still going to help in a crash. The odds that your going to hit you head in the exact same place are pretty low.
