Unfortunately we only have so muck non-military leverage against Iran if they really go off the deep end because we need their oil so bad. They have us by the balls and they know it.

I'm certainly not advocating any military intervention in Iran, but it is important to note that they have us by the balls and there isn't really much we can do about it. Especially because Russia and China have such close ties to Iran and can trump the US on the UN security council...yeah...there isn't much we can do. I say let Israel take care of them with a military strike when the time comes.

Lets looks at our two fighters.

Red Corner: Iran, recent military accomplishments have been a long drawn-out war with Saddam in Iraq in witch Iran pretty much lost.

Blue Corner: Israel, recent military accomplishments amount to have done a fair job a kicking their enemies around despite havening to fight several nations at a time.

If Iran were attacked preemptively, there is a slight chance other nations in the region would aid them. If Israel were attacked preemptively, a large portion of the western world would fall on Iran like a battleaxe. I'd also be willing to bet that the US would be unlikely to stick around for the post-game party. We would just crush the Iranian government and leave.

Iran is a force to be reckoned with for sure...but I think you overestimate them.

If Iran or any Arab country for that matter attacked Israel, they'd have a nuclear arsenal of over 200 warheads staring them in the face.

A few weeks before Iran even attacked, the best intelligence agency in the world, the Mussad, would've already given away their little plot to the Israeli government, therefore they would mobilize their army of 6 million troops.

Even if they had no idea Iran was gonna attack, within an hour of the first attack Israels entire army would already be armed and ready to unleash some serious ass-kicking.

But of course, Israel would be the least of Iran's problems, coz the entire Western world (including America who already has a large presence in the region) would beat down on their asses.

So as you can see, Iran would be fucked.

Richest and most educated? Are you kidding me? Where the hell are you getting this from? GDP per capita in Iran is $7,700, and it is all from oil. Yes this is kinda high on the world stage, but nothing compared to advanced westernized nations. Did you know that if you added up the non-oil exports of the 22 muslim countries in the world, together they would roughly equal that of an average country with 5 million people. THATS IT! Iran has no great military. We gave them a few F14s about 25 years ago and now they are sitting and falling apart because Iran doesn't have the technology or the know-how to fix and operate them. Here's a question for you-
If Iran is one of the "richest and most educated countries in the world", why are they still driving around in soviet era russian made tanks with a military that might have been competitive on a world stage around the time of world war 2 or the korean war? Why are they not using all this education you speak of to develop better vehicles or even a decent car company of thier own? How about a corporate service industry like India? How about a leading tech sector like Ireland? You really don't know much of what you are talking about. They are about 70 years behind the rest of the world when it comes to weapons technology. Their nuclear weapons program is about 1/1000 of the Manhattan Project.

We have the capacity to wipe Iran off the map. I am not advocating this, but this whole threat from them is a huge joke. Yeah the could inflict damage by building a nuke and giving it to a terrorist group, but we could make it so there isn't a living thing in Iran for the next couple thousand years. We couldn't defeat them like we defeated Germany and Japan in world war two because every muslim in the world of fighting age would go there for a personal jihad if we were to try to do what we are doing in Iraq in Iran...but give me a fucking break.
