Backcountry skiing thread

Who here is gonna keep skiing all summer? I am looking into getting a BC crew together. I am just starting to rondonet, is anyone interested in getting into this stuff or do any of you do it? We need to unite and schralp the gnarkill snow that has fallen this spring.

i know where it is. i took dave and his roomies camping up there last summer. we didn't have our skis though cause it was late august and we didn't think about it. there was a little snow where the rails were and further up the road there was even more.

i wanna go! man i bet joel was freezing his ass of in that picture! haha yea i got an intership in reno this summer so i will be staying. i almost sure ill have all weekends off, and ill prolly bring some camping stuff up here. that would be sick to make a weekend backpacking/camping/ski trip, if i don't die carrying all of it.

BAH! I'm talking about legit BC action not bootpacking up peaks all summer! Go earn some money and buy some rondo binders and some skins and let's do this right people.

The patch is chill but I'm talking about poaching High T in June or skinning over Donner summit for months after Sugar Bowl shuts down.

PS I have an extra brand new set of Naxo 12 din rondonet bindings for whoever is up for some real BC shit. I bought them specifically to get one of my freinds to man up this summer but the whole D-Crew is either broke or about to be broke-off from park skiing.

I have a planned BC trip this June.

Me and some homies are getting a 12 seater Dodge van together and taking out some of the seats for chill space.

There is still room if anyone wants in. We are going to be hitting up Horseman Glacier for at least a week in Mid-June.

What size are they? Medium, Large. Would they fit a size 28 1080 boot, I don't know the mm's.

they're mediums they go up to a 324mm boot sole. Check your boot heels sole length stamp they could work.

i'll be in the backcountry quite a bit this summer. the shit i usually hike works better with crampons and ice axes. start hiking at 3 a.m. with a headlamp when it's frozen, and ski it after it thaws out. a randonee setup with skins blows on ice in the morning, and a lot of backcountry shit is too steep to trek up.

the backcountry guidebook on there give you a good idea of where to go... theyve got a store in truckee too

i want to try it.. never done it! all season ive been thinkin about hitting up castle peak or donner ridge... also i hear u can get a cheep 1 ride lift ticket at sugar bowl and ride up mt judah and hike from there... you have access to the whole donner bc from there.. u can prolly get to the railroad if u wanna gap it

Looking forward to some May tours, I graduate at the end of April and have a month off before starting my job. Plan on hiking and skiing the cirque at the wood, sounds like there's going to be a maggot party up there on the 6th.

also thinking about making the drive into Nevada to Hike the Rubys

As I have said...the rubies are dope. this was a pretty good winter so there will be places to ski into July. It would be really good though in may and June. There are also paches that stay basically year around, but I dunno if those alone are worth the drive. If anyone is ever interested hit me up. I grew up about 10-20 minutes from the base of the rubies.

^what's the stability like this time of year. I read somewhere that they're pretty solid similiar to Tahoe, another said they're typically unstable. I'm guessing with the amount of snow they get stability should be pretty good. They sound awesome, not positive i'll get out there this spring, but in the next year.

I've never had a problem with stability, especially early in the summer. As things start to melt heavily around the rock fields it's better to be a little more cautious. I would say the rubies are more of a mix between the wasatch and the sierras. They are definately more rocky and cliff like than the sierras, but not as much as the wasach if that makes any sense.
