First of all, the reason that these scandals are brought to light is because sensationalism sells media, and a scandal is about as sensationalistic as it comes. I am SURE that the people involved in these scandals did their best to cover it up, but you can't hide from invasive media. I compete in Track and Field at a level high enough to understand the politics surrounding Performance enhancing drugs. There is one glarring fact that is well known throughout the commmunity, and that is that AMERICANS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR COVERING UP DRUG SCANDALS. Contrast that to canada, who hang their athletes out to dry, and basically cast them as the disgrace of a country. Ben Johnson for example. About the moon thing. Actually, yeah, we were the only ones with the techology at that time to put people on the moon. Russias Space Program was floundering even though the US Media hyped it up. There really was no 'Space Race' after Russia launched the first cosmonaut into space. Russia had exhausted all of their resources to do that, and all the hype about the race to the moon is complete bullshit made up by the US Media. Russia wasn't even CLOSE to going to the moon, and if you knew what you were talking about, you'd have known that. If you've read interviews with Russian Cosmonauts and officials, you'd know that. Basically, where we were neck and neck for the first satellite and the first human in space, Russia stayed at that level while we advanced. See, the problem with most of these Anti-American posts is that all the 'facts' that you presented are contrived from actual facts and twisted with fiction.

About WW2. The nuclear device being used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a TOUGH decision for Truman to make, but he did so, and his actions probably saved millions of lives in the long run. We all know that Japan was prepared to fight till the death, and that would mean that we would have wound up invading Japan, causing untold amounts of lives in the process. You have to look back and see what the people during the period saw. They saw a threat over there that had to be extinguished. The US was not yet a superpower, and was fighting for its very existance. We are lucky we can talk about ending the war with the destruction of 2 cities rather than the ravaging of an entire country.

About the entrance to World War 2. You people have to realize that at this point, the politicians and people running the country were the people that fought and endured through the first World War. At that point, it was thought that it might be another trench war, and it wasnt until the British and French forces were pushed out of France that it was realized that the Nazi's would be that big of a threat. The fact is, the US saw it as a European problem, (exactly like what you liberals are saying about the US sticking its nose in other things.) That the US should mind its own business and stay out of European affairs. The US did just that for awhile, but as more and more people in the US sympathized towards the allies (even though FDR asked people to 'Stay neutral in thought') weapons and goods started flowing from the US into Europe to the Allies. This was like a domino effect which caused more and more people in the US to side with the Allies. The Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor was just the final straw, which finally set us off. In fact, I firmly believe we would have entered the war eventually anyways. Therefore, by complaining that the US didn't enter fast enough (saving lives), you're being hypocritical by stating that we shouldn't go into Iraq because we should keep our noses out.

I don't care much for this thread but I always hate this crap about WW2. The Japs were fricking crazy, they were training civilians over there how to kill. They had 10,000 kamikazes on STANDBY!!!! It takes no more than 2 kamikazes to take down a destroyer. It's the most effective tactic to taking out structures, especially ships. They had more than enough to take out our navy. The estimated losses for American's going into Japan was 3/4 of a million lives. And the estimated losses of the enemy was about 1 and 3/4 million to 2 million lives. The bomb actually minimized casualties.

First off, world war two should NOT be used as evidence of any nations good intenions. The states had been attacked just as the british common wealt, the french, the polish, the russians, the dutch, and all those other countries. All of the allies sacrificed their youth and that should never be doubted. My grandpa stormed juno beach to help liberate france, why is that less important then the american soldiers storming omaha beach?

People saying that the states deserve to be offered aid during disaster is just stupid. Look all over the world at the poverty and the world disasters, when europe was flooded this summer was there a deluge of american suport? no. Howabout when there was an earthquake in india? yes. There is not enough foreign aid around right now to fix the worst of the worlds problems(starvation, preventable disease, education, ect.) so why should the worlds richest nation receive money from other nations?

North Korea is going to be dealt with. The same people that criticize our actions against Iraq as hasty jump to say we should be going in and doing something to North Korea. Well guess what we've dealt with Iraq before, we know this game a little better. The only thing slowing action against Iraq down is the amount of diplomacy gone into this war. The states have been preparing for action against NK. They've already flown hundreds of spy missions over NK. The differnce between Iraq and NK is that we haven't had an NK situation before. Additionally, other nations in that region such as Russia, China, Japan, and South Korea have a lot at stake with a tenuous NK situation. NK is going to be dealt with on a larger multilateral scale and diplomacy and any military action is going to take more time to coordinate.

In fact you can thank the Germans for being the first proponent of bombings aimed at civilians as well as soldiers. Obviously I'm referring to the infamous Germain bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. Until that point civilians hadn't felt the direct effects of modern war. Obviously there is no country in the world who can fight an efficient and practical war without their being civilian casualties. It's been that way ever since Guernica. Guernica was such an upsetting event that many that it even inspired Picasso to make a piece after it. But those times are past and this is the modern warfare that exists.

That's pretty stupid of China. When the situation first appeared many experts thought that China and Russia would have a lot of interest in seeking a multilateral situation... ya know cause it's kind of in their area... If they want to defer entirely to the US what kind of message is that sending? That message would be that the US is responsible for 'policing.' So if other powerful nations want to defer such matters to the US people should in the future stop bitching about the US having so much gall and harp on eastern countries being too big of pussies to handle affairs in their region.

Um... first of all. Most of germany WAS for the Nazi's... have you EVER seen any of Hitler's speeches on tape? There are THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of people there, he riled up a giant majority of the people against the jewish religion and against 'non aryans'... The German state was in a TERRIBLE state of decay, bread cost millions of Deutshemarks at the time, people were hauling wheelbarrows of money to pay for their groceries. The people were looking for someone to blame, Hitler provided the leadership they were looking for. So yeah, most of Germany WAS behind Hitler, its common sense history. Another thing, What the fuck does the Berlin wall ahve to do with ANYTHING, it fell in 1989, the Nazi's were gone dead and buried.

Another thing, about North Korea, they were testing their 3 stage ballistic missles back in 1998, they were at the prototype phase. It takes much more than 5 years to advance from prototype to actual production of a ballistic missle system.

the only thing that I fear will happen if we go without the UN is that the UN will loose so much of it's little strength it has now. which in turn will just put more pressure on the US in the future to resolve global issues. After all america pushed for the UN to be formed to become the global police force so we could go back to a more submissive state (yea that happened).

Taepo Dong-2 missile: 2 stage version has a range of 6,200 miles, enough to hit Alaska or Hawaii. 3 stage version has a range of 9,300 miles, enough to hit any point in America. Not sure how many of these they have, or if they're ready to go, but it would NOT be smart to ignore the possiblity.

I liked to see North Korea try to launch a missile, we would level their country so fast.
