I can grab my 3s fine, and spin up to 5s and stuff, but for 7s, i was wondering, my coach said that making yourself more compact makes you spin faster and easier to land. So what im asking is if i grab when im trying to spin a 7, like with a safety grab, will it be easier to do that or should i just stay compact and spin?
Grabbing actually slows you down. If you're just going for the spin for the first time, try it without a grab and it should come around fairly easily, then once you have it dialed you can work on grabs/cork/etc.
so then my other question is, should i be trying 7s on a smaller jump to make me spin faster, or on a bigger jump just so i have time for the rotation?
sorry, i just typed that really fast, tahts what some people @ Mt. Hood call double saftey grabs. they're good cause you dont flail or put any arms up. See sammy's first trick in War! to see a perfect 720 hood grab
okay, but no one answered my other question, should i be trying 7s on smaller jumps and trying to spin fast, or bigger jumps and just getting the rotation easy and smooth?
I just started trying 7's. Pencil them out until you got it dialed then keep doing them more and more compact until you're doing an actual grab. I find it's easier to do a 7 on a small jump and land it because you have less airtime to land backseat and it hurts less to fall. Again, once you get better start doing it off bigger jumps.
grabbing doesn't slow you down. if you're compact like she is saying, like for instance a double safety, like cannonball style you'll spin much faster. I can spin way faster like that than spinning normal or with lame ass pencil steeze
thats weird, i can only do my spins with grabs, i cant spin pencil. i have never tried it i just naturally go into a tail/mute and a critical if i think to
i develop a habit of unconiously doing the same grab. w/o knowing it ill always do opp safties wen i first try something. sounds like tucking is wat u do, if ur doin a new spin dont really think just do it and see wat happenns
i used to be afraid of trying to learn on bigger jumps, but just get used to the specific hit, dont try to learn on small ones, it doesnt give you the opportunity to really feel the spin. if you learned it all hucked, it might take a bit to learn to style it out. take a bigger jump and have more time to spin.
^ yea very tru kevin but the more u do get into a tuck and grab the faster u spin but its a lot harder to control......sometimes u will overotate by a whole spin or more. crazy stuff.
I actually just started doing 7s yesterday and i learned them on the bigger jumps and found that they aren't that much harder than 5's. So Learn them on the biggest jump that you are comfortable with, and if your going for 7s im hoping you are already comfortable with your rotations and you know how to set your spins both fast and slow.
Also, grabs slow you down in case you haven't figured it out. Good luck.
hood grabs are so sick. ya thats perfect to do bigger spins with. cuz u are super compact and it makes it impossible to flail wen ur grabbing. just suck up ur knees and grab at the boots
but the other thingwas, i was talking to a couple friends, and they said they can never spin fast on bigger jumps. you know how you can really huck yourself on small like mini park jumpss? they just cant do that on bigger jumps and i was wondering if i would have that problem too
